Terry Collins Plans A Sane Lineup
Terry Collins plans the following lineup this season (via Adam Rubin):
1. Jose Reyes
2. Angel Pagan
3. David Wright
4. Carlos Beltran
5. Jason Bay
6. Ike Davis
The second baseman and catcher will bat 7th and 8th.
This is a welcome change from the prior decision-maker, who batted Alex Cora, Jesus Feliciano, Ruben Tejada and Frank Catalanotto at the top of the lineup at various points last season. I think Gary Matthews Jr. batted leadoff once. Maximizing plate appearances for the team's best hitters: very cool. It's amazing that something so elementary is worthy of celebration, but here we are. Thank you to Terry Collins planning a not-insane lineup -- hopefully it sticks.

Basically a classic conventional-wisdom lineup
Normally, the ability to successfully implement boring conventional wisdom doesn’t impress me, but then I remember Jerry…
Looks good.
Depending on how Bay and Ike start their seasons, I’d maybe switch things up a bit.

Think about this
When was the last time that, of the first 6 guys in a Mets lineup, none had a last name that ended with a vowel? I bet it was years ago.

It's a great start
But I’m still hoping that one day, some manager will try the lineup suggested by a computer.
Squeezed to Song and Bendtner and Song and Nasri oh lovely lovely lovely!
-Peter Drury, the one time his commentating has ever been acceptable.
I tend to mistrust computers

Using that tool (1998-2002 version) with Bill James projections:
Among the lineups that show up at the top with the highest runs/game at 5.160, this one lines the most up with conventional wisdom (still very different):
Wright
Beltran
Thole
Davis
Bay
Pagan
Reyes
Pitcher Slot
Castillo
Bill James really, really likes Ike Davis, though.
I like this one
not so much Castillo, but batting 9th, hmmm
the one Collins is talking about is very boring and discouraging to say the least
same old same old wont get er done
yell at Jerry all you want, but you can’t make gold out of spit and glue
That line-up has a lot more than spit and glue in it.
Jerry, he’d take a dump on the spit and glue that is there, making it worse.

I put in Castillo because I am pessimistic
I think Murphy would probably also end up there if it were him anyway, though.

Using last years numbers ('09 for Murphy):
1. Jason Bay
2. Ike Davis
3. Angel Pagan
4. David Wright
5. Carlos Beltran
6. Daniel Murphy
7. Jose Reyes
8 .RA Dickey
9. Josh Thole
Save Jenrry Mejia!
At least one of the new NL East managers are smart...
It sounds like Jason Heyward won’t be batting until the 6th spot, and Nate McLouth will be batting 2nd. Someone shoot me.

Don’t want that .393 OBP clogging up the bases at the top of the lineup.
Can't spell "Colletti" without LOL.

The fact that he has the 2nd best pitch recognition on the team also wouldn’t work well in the 2-hole either…

I would have a better feeling about this if Jose Reyes didn't have an OBP of .321 last year.
John Olerud, Hall of Famer. Got a nice ring to it.
Wow this is great news.
I really liked the reyes-pagan 1-2 punch the like 3 times Jerry was fooled into not batting 2bman second. The speed combo could be lethal.

I'm afraid of this line up!
PUT THE RIGHTY LEFTY ALTERNATION IN THE LINE UP = WINS!?!?!?
I hate Philadelphia so much.
It depends how Carlos does
because otherwise I kinda did like Davis in the 4th spot.
John Franco (shoulda been) HOF 2011
So, Duda will bat 7th.
If Emaus shows a good OBP, would Collins consider moving him to the 9th spot?

OMG
the mets will get 90 wins this year with this lineup! Teh most aw3s0m3st lineup with no offense in the backend zZzZzZzZzZzZ
"Spreading out the lineup" is bad strategy.
You want your best hitters getting the most plate appearances.
What's that about?
my god

I know Pagan is a great #2
but does anyone else think Josh Thole’s skill set would make him a decent alternate for the 2 spot? (granted, he still hasn’t seen a large amount of MLB pitching)

Yes
Considering his skillset (plate discipline and bat control) and SSS what he did against Strasburg (every at bat he fouled tons of pitches, forcing him to throw more on a strict pitch count, leaving the game early). There is still some uncertainty of what OBP Thole would put up in a full season as the primary catcher to move him up in the order.

If Emaus wins the job
he might be a good fit for the second spot, because it does look like he will actually draw walks.
Over Pagan though?
Pagan very likely has a better OPS and definitely has more speed.
Save Jenrry Mejia!
Good NL Lineup
I think with the platoons of Emaus/Murphy/Justin Turner and Thole/Paulino we’ll actually be pretty strong as far a bottom 3rd of orders go.
