Per the AP:
he Oakland Athletics have made another move to boost their bullpen, agreeing to terms with free-agent lefty reliever Brian Fuentes on a two-year contract, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Sunday night.
Earlier reports indicated that the two sides were working on the parameters of a two-year, $10 million deal, and Ken Rosenthal indicated that there will be some bonuses tied to the number of saves Fuentes accrues. This is the second big-name reliever the A's have added in two days, having signed Grant Balfour to a two-year, $8 million deal on Saturday. That's a lot of money committed to the bullpen for the notoriously cash-strapped A's.
I thought Fuentes would have been a good fit for the Mets, and at two years plus a likely option he could have supported (and eventually usurped) Francisco Rodriguez's relief ace gig. Oh well, onward and upward.
