Tobi Stoner And Jason Pridie Clear Waivers, Shuffle Off To Triple-A
Per Andy McCullough of the Star Ledger, Tobi Stoner and Jason Pridie, who were designated for assignment to make room for Scott Hairston and Chris Young last week, have both cleared waivers and were assigned to Triple-A Buffalo. Each player provides organizational depth: Stoner could be useful for a spot start or long relief should the Mets roster be crippled by injuries (again); Pridie is an all-glove outfielder with good speed who could serve as a capable defensive replacement should the need arise.

Good
With the Mets not having the world’s healthiest outfield, having an outstanding defensive CF available in AAA is a good thing.
As for Stoner…I hope he wins some games for the Bisons.
Yes, yes it is.
I’m not an expert on this, but I think clearing waivers meant no one wanted to take them for nothing but a spot on their 40 man roster.
This.

I suppose it is still worth noting
that Pridie can refuse the assignment and elect for free agency. But considering no other team in baseball wanted him on the 40 man roster….perhaps he knows better.
Normally minor leaguers just accept the assignment.
Its usually the major league vets who now are unburdened by their albatross contracts might now have a suitor.
Glad my Bisons shirt isn't useless

Was a little worried that someone might take Predie away.
No one did, though. Good.

You know what this is?
It may seem unfamiliar to many Met fans. This is the building of a system with depth and good talent to bring up for emergencies. This new management is just starting to make its mark on improving this team. Over a whole year and after a draft this organization will be in top shape in no time.
how do come to the conclusion
that two nobodys making it thru waivers because they suck and nobody wants them, somehow improves our “depth and talent”.
not being a dick, but it seems like reverse logic = if they were good someone would have scooped them up.
Pujols 2012?
There is a definite possibility that the Mets get Pujols if he does not renew with STL this year. Man what a signing and an improvement he would be to this team. We would have the cash and he would make our lineup stacked. I don’t think there is anyway STL can come close to an A-Rod price for Pujols and I don’t think any team should. The Yankees/Rangers paid an insane and inflated amount for him. I would think the Mets could step up and give Pujol a 7-8 year deal worth $200-225 million. It would be a big chunk of money but he is worth it. With him our lineup is best in NL no question. With Pujols on board we shift Ike to RF; so what if we give up a bit of defense in right both Ike’s and Alberts bats more than make up for it. Our potential lineup for 2012. Reyes(resign of course), Pagan, Wright, Pujols, Davis, Bay, Murphy/someone, Thole. That lineup is stacked 1-6 and has good R/L balance. Add to that lineup some rotation additions like maybe Edwin jackson or a trade acquisition and our team is WS bound. PUJOLS FOR FIRST NYM MVP!
Hmm...
Can Ike play RF? Has he ever done it? I know that he said last week he would pitch if necessary to stay on the team with Pujols, but would he defensively play to above-replacement value there? Plus, Pujols seems like the type of guy who would stay with a team throughout his career. I do not know about this one. Regardless, we need pitching overall.
Ike could play RF, but it would be a very bad thing for the Mets
His is too slow to cover RF in Citi Field.

Also
Why has Pelfrey not been given a contract extension to cover his arb years and keep him cheap. He is developing into a good to great pitcher and has serious potential as a No. 2. I would give him a 4-5 year deal worth around $30 million give or take. Pelfrey, Niese and Mejia should be the future core of our rotation. Then we could use Gee and various other players as trade bait to maybe go after a starter.
Because his agent is Scott Boras.
Boras doesn’t do that. Boras clients test free agency the first chance they get. I’d consider dealing Pelfrey in the next couple of years because of that…you’ll never get a deal on him.

Same here
I like Big Pelf, but it is what it is. He’ll be FA eligible in 2014 (He’ll also be 31!). By 2013 or so, you figure, the more promising guys in the system right now, Mejia, Harvey, and others, will probably be ready, or close to ready. Pencil in Niese, and Dickey (unlimited contract), and it’s not that Pelf is expendable, per se, but he’s more valuable as prospects returned in a trade.

Yeah and don't forget guys like Gee, Cohoon,
and younger guys like Familia or even Juan Urbina, if he suddenly hits the fast track, could be ready by then too (of course if a guy like Familia straightens out the control issues, stays healthy and isn’t dealt away). Not to say any of these guys is a lock for the 2013 or 2014 rotation but they could be cheap options down the road that could provide similar results to and allow a trade of Pelf to bring in more prospects and future big leaguers before he hits the market. Unless he improves a bit, I don’t think Pelf is the type of pitcher that’s prudent to sign to the long, expensive contract that Boras is going to try to get for him.
Also, hopefully we’ll see some better drafting over the next couple of seasons. That #13 pick in this very stacked draft could (hopefully) net us a really good player.
