what horseshit

One thing I just can’t stand about St. Louis is that anyone they insert in that lineup turns into a superstar. It’s unbelievable. If the Mets had Berkman, Freese, and Nick Punto, they’d put up a collective -3 WAR.

I hope Texas absolutely destroys St. Louis.

OK, so the game ain't over yet

But the amount of ridiculous luck St. Louis had to get here borders on the impossible. Atlanta completely imploding in September.,…The Phils blowing a 4-0 lead in game 2 after being BABIPed to death by Ryan Theriot. The Phils not managing a single run off of Carpenter in game 5….Marcum imploding in October after a fine regular season.

Also, Lance Berkman was terrible last year. Where the hell did his borderline MVP season come from?

I guess the old adage

of it’s not how you start but how you finish comes into play this year with the Cards.

They’re lucky to have snuck in at all but did so b/c they had a great Sep while the Braves had a horrible Sep. That and the Phils offense had been stinking up the joint for a couple of months.

Agreed.

As long as they completely overpay Rollins based on 2007 having happened, I’m okay with that. Rollins isn’t much of a hitter but he can still play solid defense at short, something Betancourt can only dream of.

The Mets management and players were really flamed after that disaster. But by and large they didn’t get down, or turn on each other.

is there any chance St. Louis doesn't win the central next year?

They’ll have Wainwright back, and they’ll probably sign Raul Ibanez and get an 8 WAR season out of him, and you know Cincinnati and Milwaukee will have everything go wrong and Pittsburgh is probably another year away…..

Damn, and I thought last year was it for the LaRussa-Pujols-Carpenter team, after they choked on Cincinnati’s dust. They lost Wainwright and then Berkman was the big offseason acquisition….

But look who they’re winning with. Berkman was a corpse last year. Freese and Craig are nobodies. How do they win with the garbage? At least when the Yankees win, they do it with genuine talent, and even the seasons they pulled out of their ass (Freddy Garcia, Bartolo Colon) didn’t help them in the end.

The Phills appear

to be the new Braves from the 90s.

The pattern though is downhill from 2008 – their 102 win season this year notwithstanding:

2008 – WS champs
2009 – WS losers
2010 – NLCS losers
2011 – NLDS losers

So here’s hoping 2011 sees them continuing the pattern with not winning the division.

they still managed to screw things up

If the Phils were going to win a title, couldn’t it have been against the Yankees? They beat the teams I want to see win (TB in 2008, Colorado in 2009, Cincinnati last year), while losing to other teams I hate (Yankees and St. Louis).

2013 ALL-STAR GAME(TM) LOGO CONTEST

Major League Baseball has formally announced that Citi Field will be the site of the 2013 All-Star Game. (see video) In light of this, I have decided to launch an All-Star Game logo contest. To help get you started, I provided all of you with a sample All-Star Game logo. (click here to embiggen) If you wish to participate, please enter your submission with an image below, in the comments section. The contest ends on May 31st. I will choose a select number of finalists, and the community will vote on which of those logos is the best one.

Can you create a better logo than the sample logo provided? Then, give it a shot. Good luck to all participants!
