Marlins have offered Pujols $225 million over 9 years?
"The Miami Marlins aren’t messing around. Their standing offer to Albert Pujols(notes) is believed to be for nine years. With a competitive average annual value (say $25 million), that’s $225 million, minimum, and that’s more than what the St. Louis Cardinals are believed to have offered in the spring. Is it possible that two weeks into November Pujols could already have what will be his best offer?"

Still don't buy it
If they offer Reyes a deal where he gets $15 million dollars a year (generally speaking), and Pujols a deal where he gets $25 million dollars a year (generally speaking), and maybe Buerhle $15 or so (for however long), that’s $55 million dollars in new payroll for 2012. That’s almost a 100% increase in payroll on new contracts, without factoring in arbitration raises and stuff like that.
I’m just not buying any of it.

It now looks like the deal offered for Pujols is for less
Still 9 years, but for less than $200 million.

Shocker
This is all to drum up publicity for the new team/stadium. Make semi-competitive offers to all the big name free agents (Now they are in on CJ Wilson!) that eventually get outbid. Free publicity.

Are you implying an upstanding individual like Loria would try to trick his fanbase?
