My guess is that Jose will be gone
hate to be negative, but I think that Jose will be leaving.
Think about the last game of the season, when Jose took himself out after getting a single to protect his batting title chances. Why did the manager let us know that Jose took himself out? Why didn't Collins say that it was a management decision to sit Jose? They could have said that they wanted to avoid having him play the field to minimize the chance of injury, but wanted to give the fans a chance to see him hit - hence his removal after he led off.
That seems like standard practice to protect your player. So why didn't they do that? Maybe they realize that Jose will be gone, and they wanted to minimize the fan disappointment by poisoning the well.
My guess is that the Mets will give him a reasonable offer, but an offer that both parties know will not be the best, and will not get the job done.
We'll find out soon enough.

Not saying those things is not poisoning the well.
Poisoning the well would be the Mets releasing a statement saying “What did you think about Reyes’ bad/good decision?”

I thought that
but it seems that most teams are lukewarm on him. The Brewers are the biggest threat, but even then it seems like a bit of a longshot.
The Brewers seem like a threat
because they had the worst shortstop in baseball and will likely have money to spend, but if they plan on doling out a huge contract, why would it be for Jose and not their own hometown hero in Fielder?
Mets, Jets, Islanders, Knicks.

The theory is that Boras will settle for nothing less than $200M (like he said)
and they will throw the money they were going to spend on Fielder at Reyes instead. However, the Braun extension complicated this as they likely don’t have a ton of money left to spend (hat tip to TheKidd).

Hi there!
Just to let you know, you might want to take a look at the posting guide. Fanposts are typically longer, more researched pieces. This should be a fanshot, which is reserved for shorter pieces, links, images, etc.

I apologize for not putting this in the fan shots instead of the fan posts. Steve Schreiber – thanks for pointing this out to me in a constructive way.
Thanks to the commenters who responded to my point – thanks. That’s what I was looking for – generating a discussion about something that was on my mind that I thought was pertinent.
As for some of the other commenters: sarcastic responses will only serve to discourage future comments. Is that what you really want?
they discourage future poorly constructed fanposts
and that is what I want, yes.

Well, the sarcastic responses often come from people because we have very high standards here for fanposts.
It ends up becoming a way to discourage bad posts, which pop up every now and then.

The fanpost is generally reserved for the highly researched, and/or labor intensive posts
Since a link describing the proper use of each is available on the main homepage, people get a bit touchy when they’re misused (plus it pushes a proper fanpost out of the “recent fanposts” list, meaning fewer people will come by it, which can be frustrating for those who put a lot of work into them, only to have them go unseen.) Don’t let it discourage you from posting, just please be careful about following the community guidelines.

Agreed
Thanks – I got that message clearly. ;)
I have a question for you (and anyone else). Had I placed this in the fan shots section, would this have had any value, or would I still have been pummeled? Disregarding the fact that this does not fit the guidelines of a fan post (and in the future I will comply with the guidelines), do you think that this has any value? I think that my point – that Mets management threw Jose under the bus – has gotten lost .
I’m genuinely interested in your opinion.
Id recommend even in fanshots throw a relevant link or two in there (preferably ones that haven't been linked previously here) if you can find them
or make a poorly drawn MS Paint or Photoshop image or two to entertain the masses. Fanshots don’t have to be anything fancy, but they should at least provide enough information, or at least silliness to start a conversation in general. As to your point, I don’t really think they threw Jose under the bus in this case. If Collins had said he made the decision to pull Jose after that hit, fans would have been all over him about taking away what could be their last chance at seeing Jose in a Mets uniform just to protect him for whatever team he ends up with next. It was kind of a no-win situation, so I feel like when you’re presented with telling an unpleasant truth, or an equally unpleasant lie, you might as well tell the truth.

You'd have caught less grief if it'd been a FanShot.
We’re more forgiving when those aren’t well-constructed. Something like this could work as a chat FanShot, since it might spark some discussion, albeit one we’ve been having for weeks.
