I went with Lynn, too
Who in Mets lore is named Lynn? I’m drawing a blank, and it’s annoying. There’s Lindsey Nelson, and maybe he’s who I’m thinking of, but I can’t help think there’s someone else…

But Sandy Alderson’s middle name is “Lynn” apparently.

191 is still a small sample
And the wisdom of crowds usually does work out, as hard as that is to believe.
In either case
I don’t know if it would work out on something that is basically just a guess, like this is.

Actually, it is
One example being prediction markets results which are consistently better than poll numbers in political elections. I believe the presidential prediction market has never selected a wrong candidate, though I’m not sure how many elections that is.
Another example is how major corporations like Intel use prediction markets to project demand in addition to their quantitative analysis department.
thats not the same thing as wisdom crowds though is it?
because there’s no right or wrong objective answer in terms of predicting president. Where as Sandy has a factual name that isn’t going to change.
That being said I imagine a lot of people just voted for random things. I know his name is Richard but Richard is lame, I’d much rather it be Xander because it sounds cooler.

I honestly don't care
I have finals this week and that’s one of the things I remembered from my management class. I just remember him spending half a lecture on wisdom of crowds in judgmental forecasts. Riveting stuff, as you can imagine.
In that case, there are different truths for different parts of the world
The “majority” of Americans believe in God, the majority of Indians believe in Shiva/Vishnu/et al., the majority of Arabs believe in Allah…
I guess they must all be right!

well Allah is just arabic for God so thats not really any different.
As far as I understand Christians, Jews, and Muslims believe in the same “God” of the old testament, the differences just stem how they interpret the cannon of the old testament and the post old testament new cannons.

Off topic
but they’re (espn) reporting that Rollins’ contract is 11mil/year for 3 years with a vesting option for a fourth. Here’s hoping he continues to decline and gives them another large useless contract to deal with in a couple years.

Sandy>diminutive of Sandra>feminized version of Alexander>from the Greek Alexandros>'defender of men'
Good name for a marine. Sandy wins hands down.
I know it applies to both
but I really hear the connection between Alexander and Sandra – Sandra seems more appropriately matched with the girl name Cassandra. I certainly don’t see how alex would lead to sandy – though the same could be said for dick —> sandy

I think that some Russians spell it 'Aleksander', FWIW.

yeah this
And even in some other countries I believe they spell it Alesander. The first guy, I can remember, I met named Alex’s full name was Allesandro. The first person overall was named Alex but I think it might have been short for Alexis or something. (though I do have an aunt named Sandra who’s called Sandy) So the idea of Sandy being feminine never really occurred to me until later.

I've always been weirded out by Ashley being seen as a super femine name too
to me its always sounded like a name that is ambiguous or even male leaning.

the first person overall I can remember was a girl I should clarify
according to google most non english/greek based countries don’t use the X, or a k at all.

Leslie is another weird one
Goes both ways but I hear it as fem based upon first person I met. Actually same for Sandy.
Ashely is totaly a girls name.
Pat, Sam and Danny are the only truly ambiguos, but male leaning names I can think of.

Sandy. I don't think Dick is that weird, but I also don't see Sandy as that feminine and just happen to like it better.

I'm pretty sure you get called Sandy if you've got blond hair
It has nothing to do with your real name, like Red or Beanie (skinny → string bean).
if your name was cassandra it would
