This week is traditionally a slow one for baseball news and usually features many Hall of Fame voters posting their ballots online. So prepare for coverage of those ballots if you frequent Baseball Nation, Baseball Think Factory, HardballTalk, or any other baseball website with a Hall of Fame interest. The following players are up for election this year:
Jeff Bagwell, Jeromy Burnitz, Vinny Castilla, Juan Gonzalez, Brian Jordan, Barry Larkin, Javy Lopez, Edgar Martinez, Don Mattingly, Fred McGriff, Mark McGwire, Jack Morris, Bill Mueller, Terry Mulholland, Dale Murphy, Phil Nevin, Rafael Palmeiro, Brad Radke, Tim Raines, Tim Salmon, Ruben Sierra, Lee Smith, Alan Trammell, Larry Walker, Bernie Williams, Tony Womack, Eric Young
My hypothetical selections:
- Jeff Bagwell
- Barry Larkin
- Edgar Martinez
- Mark McGwire
- Tim Raines
- Alan Trammell
I emphasize advanced statistics in my selection process. PED allegations don't bother me, especially for players in the pre-testing era. Bagwell is the only slam dunk and one of the top five first basemen ever. A Hall of Fame without him ceases to have credibility. Larkin and Raines are in the next tier. Martinez, McGwire, and Trammell are a step below.
Use this thread for any Hall of Fame discussion.
