I felt a salute was in order for Chris Capuano -- on his way out the door to LA -- as he cemented his name in the Mets history books with that historic start last August.

Also shockingly not here
John Maine’s performance in game 161 of the 2007 season.

Maybe because it wasn’t a CG? I feel like this was the best Mets pitching performance I ever saw live.
Mark Cuban for owner! Save us from the Wilpons!
I find it hilarious that the Rob Gardner game was #1
He pitched 15 innings, but it wasn’t even a complete game. The game ended after 18 innings without a decision. It’s nice to see Al Jackson and Rick Reed get some attention, even if Doc isn’t anywhere to be seen.
"Amazing strength, amazing power - he can grind the dust out of the bat. He will be great, super even wonderful. Now, if he can only learn to catch a fly ball."

I don't know...
considering that Gooden isn’t even on here, and neither is the Johan gem the second to last game of ‘08, or Maine’s performance in ’07, that this Gamescore is deeply flawed.
Or, a testament to the fact we've had some pretty kick ass pitching performances over the years?

If you really go through each game on here, there all pretty nutty stat lines.
I’m guessing some walks marred the Gooden. Santana, Maine games.
yeah
it makes sense. i mean look at maine’s game in ‘07; it was masterful but he only went 7.2 IP (89 gamescore). none of the guys above went any fewer than 9, and most went more. gamescore may be simple but in a lot of ways it’s a more elegant measure than some of the most advanced metrics out there.
johan has never reached a 90 gamescore as a met. his epic CG start to end the season in ‘08 was an 87. compared to the lines above, the combination of 3 hits and 3 walks is kind of a lot, especially considering he didn’t even reach double digit K’s. he actually hit 88 a few weeks before against the pirates but lacked the strikeouts (9 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 0 BB, 7 K). one other 87 versus the rockies in 2010 rounds out his three best as a met.
as for gooden, he actually would appear on this list if i didn’t cut it at a round number of starts (20). he posted a gamescore of 93 in his rookie season in ‘84. the reason reed and saberhagen appear first is because i was grouping in order of most recent starts in the event of a tie. he would go on to post dozens more games in the high 80’s and low 90’s but never was able to crack that 93 mark.

The Maine performance was great,
but just looking at the numbers, was it better than any of the above? I don’t see it.
So, this Tom Seaver guy must have been a decent pitcher

What i first took from this is that Koosman doesn't get enough praise
Than I was a little surprised that Maine, Gooden and Santana didn’t get on the list.
