Source: Ramirez reportedly will not play to Marlins 3B - ESPN
Per Google Translate:
"Hanley did not want to play third base and the Marlins were informed of the boy thought," said the source. "Rather than ask for a change, what he has done is to inform you not want to play another position other than shortstop," he said.
Ramirez is owed $47 million over the next three seasons.

LOL at Hanley.
The Marlins are actually looking decent for the first time in a while, and he wants to abandon ship, because they’re forcing him off a position he’s awful at.

Know what's really funny about this?
I read about it at the same time i’m listening to Keith Law on his podcast talk about Hanley being “a plus fielder at third base”.
Oh pissing blimey there's jam coming out of the walls!
This actually makes the run at Pujols make sense
Dumping Hanley’s $15m while adding Pujols at $22m or so is only a net +$7m. Bet this was their plan all along.
Looks like a guy that peaked early

Yeah, I can't imagine
it will be that easy to dump Hanley after a subpar season.

Someone will take a chance on him.
At short or perhaps as an option at third.
Oh pissing blimey there's jam coming out of the walls!
I doubt it
part of their Pujols recruiting pitch would be the chance to play in a lineup with Reyes and HanRam. Plus, HanRams value couldn’t have dropped any further coming into this offseason – although it has now that he made it public that he won’t move to third base – so there is no way that this could be their plan

Then we'll move him to third
Wright to left, Bay to center, Ike to right, Tejada to first, Thole to second, Torres to first, and platoon Murphy/Turner at catcher

Of course the other "terrifying" thought
Move Reyes to CF and Hanley remains at SS? Is there a clause in Reye’s contract that says he will only play SS?
Now, kids, being eaten by a crocodile is just like going to sleep; in giant blender.
Hey
stupider things have happened before.
Just like moving Reyes to 2B for Kaz.
Now, kids, being eaten by a crocodile is just like going to sleep; in giant blender.
Not really
That’s pretty much unprecendented… you’d increase Reyes’ risk of injury and decrease his value instantly.
If I was an owner of a club that signed Reyes and moved him to CF, I would fire my general manager immediately.

I am sick and tired of professional athletes saying they don't want to play a position
If you are getting paid fifteen fucking million dollars to play baseball and you are complaining because you don’t want to play third base then I don’t want you anywhere near my team. I don’t want you in my organization period.
This speaks volumes about Hanley’s character. He is not a team player and he is certainly not a role model for kids. He is under contract to play baseball and nowhere in the contract does it mention fielding position. The TEAM is the party that decides which position the player plays. The player has no say in this. I am sick and tired of the team listening to a player when he says he does not want to play third base. I don’t give a shit.
I would say that I want the Marlins to force Hanley to play third just to spite him, but I really hope that he gets BENCHED and is not allowed to play at all. If you aren’t going to hustle to first base on every single ground ball, and you are going to complain about which position you are playing , and you aren’t going to support the club when they are in the midst of their biggest offseason in franchise history, then YOU DON’T DESERVE TO PLAY IN THE MAJOR LEAGUES.

Where in Hanley's contract does it say he is to play shortstop?
As far as I know Major League Baseball contracts just require the team to pay the player money in return for the player playing baseball.

Why have starting pitchers, relievers specific roles, or position players who don't juggle positions?
My workstudy job at school, on my paycheck, it just says Federal Workstudy Program, my personal info, and tax stuff. Says nothing about what they actually trained me to do, and what I’ve been doing for the past three months. Would it make sense to move me to a job that is semi-related that I didn’t choose (I got to pick where they assigned me), and am I not allowed to be angry about arbitrarily being moved?

Unfortunately for the Marlins they waited to sign another shortstop to a huge contract before moving him.
It was inevitable though. I’m a surprised the Marlins didn’t discuss it with him previously. Then again, I’m not.

Too bad for him
Again, he’s an employee of the team, and being paid on a certain level of performance. He’s not performing defensively at SS, so he’s being asked to move to a position that he might perform adequately at.
There is no hope.... there is no future....there is only BLUE WALLS.
The 2012 Mets: Fortune cookie says come back in 2015
And too bad for the Marlins
They paid him all that money to be a shortstop. He is a shortstop. He has always been a shortstop (true, or no?) and and wants to continue being a shortstop. He is under no compulsions to move, nor is he under any compulsions to be happy about it if the Marlins force him.

I think you're missing that it's not Hanley being defended,
it’s the idea that employees can expect the job they signed for to be the job they go on doing.
Obviously, Hanley is going to have to come around to not being a shortstop. Obviously, it’s going to be a ton of fun to watch his pain and agony while he does. Nevertheless, sweeping declarations that because he’s being paid fifteen fucking million dollars he has no say in his employment situation are just wrong.
Players change positions all the time. What makes him special?
Again, he’s getting paid a premium to perform well at a position offensively and defensively. The Marlins thought he would do that at SS, but he hasn’t, so he’s being asked to move to 3B. It’s not like he’s being asked to move to C or something like that.
There is no hope.... there is no future....there is only BLUE WALLS.
The 2012 Mets: Fortune cookie says come back in 2015
Just because he sucks at it, or is being paid a lot to do it doesn't mean he has to accept it
He’s been a shortstop his entire Minor League career minus 11 games at 2nd base, 3 games at 3rd base, and 1 game at DH. He’s been a shortstop his entire Major League career minus 5 games at DH. Why should he voluntarily vacate the position he became a baseball player to play at, or accept it graciously? Because there are people who are better at it than him? There are also people who are worse at it than him (Asdrubal Cabrera and Yuniesky Betancourt), so now what? Because he’s being paid a lot by the Marlins? There are players who make comparable amounts who are worse at baseball- the offensive and/or defensive aspects- so now what?
At the end of the day, he’s going to be moved because that’s how baseball works, but he has every right to fight it, bitch about it and moan- and he’s completely justified doing so.
