Most Popular Mets Pages On Baseball-Reference
The irreplaceable Baseball-Reference keeps track of the most viewed player and team pages since the site's launch in 2000, linked here. The top 200 are listed. Some big names top the list (Alex Rodriguez, Barry Bonds, Babe Ruth), as do some famous teams (1998 Yankees, 2004 Red Sox, 2001 Mariners). Where do Mets players and teams rank? Click after the jump to find out.
First, the most popular players:
Some notes:
- There you have it, R.A. Dickey > Tom Seaver
- Jeff Francoeur and several other saber lightning rods appear (J.A. Happ, Joe Saunders, Andre Dawson).
- Lucas Duda, Dillon Gee and Mike Nickeas are among a crew of players on the list who made their MLB debut in 2010. I'm not sure what that's about.
- Edgar Renteria is the most surprising player in the top ten.
Now, the most popular Mets teams:
Nothing really stands out here -- the notable seasons in Mets history are present. Maybe 1998 and 2001 are a little surprising. The 1986 Mets are the highest ranked non-Yankees squad. Carry on with your Saturday evening.

Yeah
I don’t want to believe that Francoeur’s profile is the 62nd most visited of all players in the history of MLB.
I refuse to believe it.
We need to fix that.

Why's it so hard to believe
People want to come and marvel at how someone so statistically awful could still be a starting player for so long. Its like going to a freak show.
I probably account for about 20,000 of those views
While trying to figure out ways to better mock and ridicule him through bad song spoofs or poetry.

im sorry
but who is looking at mike nickeas page? why?
Roy Oswalt 3rd was surprising, but Dawson as a top 10 view was more surprising to me than renteria since edgar is at least a current player
I like Ike, I hate Jerry
guys, life is not a web page
Its just a data point :-) go outside, get some sunshine
what's "outside"?
Also: what’s “sunshine”?

The fan formely known as 0(+> (pronounced MetFanWithaPlan)
Seaver is the oddest one being as far as being low.
I get the rookies getting a lot of hits, but you’d think a guy like FMart or Mejia who were hyped prospects that made their debuts in the last couple years would be higher than Nickeas.
Also, not bringing any new info here, but 155 career WAR from Willie Mays is so godly.
JA Happ almost cracking the top 20
wow.
I bet Jerry Manuel just bunted.
There has to be something wrong with this data
Not even Mike Nickeas’s mom would look at his page almost 100,000 times.
Weird
I cynically thought these “unestablished” players were getting high rankings because their advertisers were trying to game the system.
An additional link from a website as well-connected as B-F is probably worth a lot and search engine optimization guys are subhuman vultures actively trying to ruin the internets.
I can’t find a connection there. Duda is sponsored by a Mets blog and Nickeas doesn’t even have one so he gets a John Deere ad.

Every day it has a few guys who's names are on the front page under the posts
I have noticed Duda and Gee there several times, I don’t know why they are so common but it semi-explains why they have been visited so much
Did you notice this?
People must be viewing these pages at complete random. Even a page with nobody’s name on got 13,901 hits. So weird.

How did it pitch?!
I can somewhat imagine the batting and fielding. Maybe they shook it up first.

Wasn't there, don't know
Something tells me those were some games, though.

Guys like Nickeas have tons of page views because nobody knew who they were and had to BR/Fangraphs to find out.
Or to at least know if they bat L/R.
