Mets sign LHP Justin Hampson to minor league deal

Does anyone know why this guy's has been out of MLB for two years after having a sub-3 ERA and good FIPs the previous two years? I'm guessing injuries but I didn't see anything about in in a quick googling.

SSS strikes again.

His ERA and FIP are good, but his xFIPs are bad when you take into account his flukey low HR rate after giving them up at a decent rate in the minors.

I can’t find anything either about where he’s been the last 2 years. It didn’t stop Marcel projecting him to have a good year though.

xFIP isn’t everything, though. Not everyone is going to regress to a league-avg HR/FB.

In any case, I’m surprised no team wanted him at all.

xFIP is flawed, but even compared to his own minor league numbers he was flukey

And even if you believed he just improved from the minors, 0.17 HR/9 would be flukey for anyone.
