The Mets NEVER bring a young guy up to start the season and at least compete for Rookie of the Year. Reyes, Wright, Parnell, etc….always midseason call-ups who wind up being major league ready way before they’re brought up.

and that he legitimately thinks that winning the ROY is an important step in a player’s career. And if so, I’ll toss out a second “yikes”.

I realize that this is a sin of the past regime - once you’re on the 40, you’re on the 40 - but man, how sad is it that Jennry Mejia is going to lose TWO option years before he should have even debuted in the Majors?

Luckily they’ve got all of 2011 and 2012 to figure out what he is but it leaves the team no room for error should he miss some time due to injury or whatever other malady occurs and we come into 2013 with Jenrry as a 23 year old flamethrower who’s out of options. It’s a shame…they could’ve saved an option year on him if they’d just let him start in the minors and then called him up in August to throw in the pen.
Obviously this year is big, but next year is gigantic for him. He’s going to have to prove in 2012 that he deserves a rotation spot whether he’s ready for it or not. At least I can feel more comfortable saying that this regime will know best how to handle things should he struggle a bit.
