Mets ST Farm Report 3/24
The Herd broke into the win column yesterday with an 8-7 victory over the Zephyrs on the strength of 3B Zach Lutz' bat. Lutz drove in four, hit his second homer of the spring -- a 3-run job -- and fell a double shy of the cycle. Newcomer 1B Chris Shelton drove in two runs on a pair of RBI-ground outs.
Meanwhile, RHP Jenrry Mejia started and allowed two unearned runs in four innings of work. LHP Justin Hampson -- another new face -- pitched an inning of shutout relief.
Interesting stuff in Savannah's game against Greensboro: Beyond the 4-4 tie, 17-yr old top prospect LHP Juan Urbina made his spring debut and though he didn't pitch well (1.2 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 3 BB) this begs the question, could Urbina begin '11 with the Gnats? RHP Michael Hebert started this one, allowing two runs on one walk with a strikeout in 2.1 innings. The perpetually injured but still intriguing RHP John Holdzkom worked a scoreless, hitless inning with a pair of walks. At the plate, SS Robbie Shields was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run while 3B Aderlin Rodriguez went 1-for-2 with a 2-RBI double.
