Practically everyone who played for the Mets today absolutely crushed the ball. David Wright, Angel Pagan, Brad Emaus, Josh Thole, and Matt den Dekker each hit a home run. Pagan and Nick Evans had 3 hits a piece while Wright and Emaus each had 4. It all added up to a total of 16 runs on 23 hits.
Chris Capuano allowed 3 runs, 2 of which were earned, through 5 innings with 4 strikeouts and no walks. Capuano and Chris Young continue to impress in spring training games. Blaine Boyer, Francisco Rodriguez, Taylor Buchholz, and Bobby Parnell each followed up Capuano's outing with a scoreless inning.
With the big day at the plate, Emaus certainly didn't hurt his case to start the season as the team's everyday second baseman. Here's the updated Emaus-Murphy table:
| Player | AB | AVG | OBP | SLG | INN | E |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Emaus | 41 | 0.293 | 0.396 | 0.439 | 72 | 2 |
| Murphy | 58 | 0.310 | 0.333 | 0.414 | 50 | 2 |
If you've been following the table all along, the significant jump in every category today helps illustrate just how erratic stats can be in small samples. All of a sudden, Emaus' numbers look formidable.
The Mets visit the Marlins tomorrow at 1:05 pm, but the game will not be broadcast locally.
