Mets Prospect Ratliff Hit By Liner, Needs Facial Surgery
According to ESPNNY, OF Sean Ratliff was struck in the face by a foul ball while standing in the on-deck circle during one of yesterday's minor league games. He suffered six broken bones and though his vision is ok, a plate may be required.
This really sucks for Ratliff who emerged last year as a serious prospect and was looking to prove that his breakout 2010 with Double-A Binghamton was the real deal. Plus, the whole getting hit in the face with a baseball part. Ratliff came in at #15 in the 2011 AA Prospect Rankings.

Damn
He was a break-out candidate this year. Or rather, out to show last year’s breakout was no fluke. That on-deck circle is dangerous. Just ask Ben Christensen, or actualy the guy he hit.
Remember Juan Encarnacion?
His career ended because he got hit in the face in the on deck circle with the Cardinals a couple of years ago.

vision is OK
sounds like a no
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.
poor guy
that must be one hell of a headache

I think hitters should be allowed to stand on deck on either side of the batter
If its a righty batter then on deck should be on the left side, if its a lefty batter then on deck should be on the right side. I think the concept of team’s having their own on deck circles is kind of dumb. Who cares about the bat boys, as a baseball player I am willing to carry my own bat if it means I can protect my health.
Gas prices today are a lot like a pitcher's ERA. Anything under 3 is amazing, under 4 is pretty good and anything 5 and up is something you want to avoid.
Little league style, right?
Where the on-deck circle is a square fenced-in cage. That makes sense, as long as it’s see through so that the on deck batter can see and time the pitcher’s delivery/pitches.

Bad news, but at least he's ok.
Glad to hear there’s no apparent damage to his vision.
