Rival GM: Brad Emaus looks like a AAAA player
It's probably too early to come to this type of conclusion, but I haven't been impressed by him so far either. For someone with such a disciplined approach he takes a pretty wild, undisciplined swing.

Fixed.
He’s just taking making up a quote.

He's looked overmatched
no doubt, but it’s still early. He’s moved closer to the plate, so let’s see if he can adjust. It makes sense to give him at least 120 ABs or so…
This is a better Fangraphs article on the situation, Heyman blows:
http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/stop-toying-with-emaus-playing-time/
Who said he's supposed to be a superstar?
He’s a replacement-level player with a possible high upside who is being paid the ML minimum to play passable second base for a limited time. How is that a bad thing, in and of itself?

Everyone looks bad when they aren't hitting well
Pagan has looked awful but we know he can hit so people give him the benefit of the doubt. It is still really, really early in the season and there’s really no harm in giving Emaus a chance.
Yeah, really
All across baseball, articles are being written about how player x sucks/is awesome because of 30 AB or 6 innings of relief pitching. Every one of them is completely baseless.
but Jeff FRancoeur is a natural!

yup. there's always a handful of players hittign 400 and a handful hitting 150 at this point
and since we need something to talk about, we make a huge deal about it. Emaus’ problem is that fans don’t know who he is because he’s a rule V. Murphy gets the benefit of the doubt because he is our guy, and pagan because he was great last year.

Some guys who are hitting under .200 right now include
Carl Crawford, Brett Gardner, Ian Kinsler, Austin Jackson, James Loney, Angel Pagan, Kelly Johnson, Juan Uribe, Ryan Ludwick, Jayson Werth, Pedro Alvarez, Brandon Belt….
There’s some pretty good hitters there, and they all have have more ABs than Emaus. If the season were a 24 hour day, it would only be about 2:10 a.m. right now. It’s been said, but it’s still too damn early to make conclusions. Except for Frenchy, he will no doubt win MVP.
plus, Emu is hitting 8th, right before our awesome hitting pitchers
yay! 50 AB really qualifies for panic

Kind of
If Emaus had any kind of major league track record (or even promising minor league numbers), like all of the guys you cite above, then it would be absolutely nothing to worry about.
There’s nothing wrong with giving him a few more weeks, but he hasn’t done anything to earn the benefit of the doubt.
Also that FanGraphs article is ridiculous. How can you simultaneously lobby (trademark, Adam Rubin) more time for Emaus yet emphatically say (with no accompanying evidence) that Daniel Murphy is “not the answer.”

Even if Jon Heyman didn't just make up this quote,
why would we trust what a “Rival GM” has to say? If I’m this rival GM, I want the Mets to give up on Emaus if I think he has any value, so that the Mets downgrade and I can claim him off waivers when the Mets foolishly try to sneak him through.
I mean really…why would we listen to this garbage? Just give Emaus some playing time. I agree he looks a little overmatched, but he’s got like 30 at bats. I say give it until memorial day…not like this is a playoff contender anyway.

You're all going too far with this
I’m all for Heyman bashing, but asserting that he made up a quote is unrealistic and naive. I’m not a fan of his writing, but I highly doubt that he’s doctoring quotes. It would be even more naive to take this rival GM’s passing word as gospel—I think you’re misinterpreting in trying to understand the rival GM’s motives behind the quote. Emaus doesn’t look good so far. He isn’t playing like a quality big league player. Of course, you’re never as bad as you are when you’re slumping, and I’m confident he’ll come around. But right now he has looked overmatched at the plate.
Trying to believe is my full-time occupation.
But why is a rival GM saying this and
why is a rival GM’s opinion taken with anything more than a grain of salt in this situation, when said rival GM has likely seen Emaus play…what…3 games? Maybe a few more if it was a team the Mets played in spring training. Unless it’s somebody who was in the Jays organization and has watched him for a long time, this is either a ridiculously small sample or made up (and sorry, but he used “one competing GM”. Not even a rival GM. That doesn’t mean a thing to me and could easily be made up. I wouldn’t put it past Jon Heyman or most of these “journalists” using fake, unnamed sources.)

I don't think Heyman is taking it with more than a grain of salt
He writes that Emaus hasn’t impressed so far. That’s plenty fair.
I think it’s fair to say that Emaus currently "looks like "a AAAA player, but it’s definitely not fair to say that he is a AAAA player. I think we’re in agreement about that.
Trying to believe is my full-time occupation.
Honestly,
I think it is a real quote. I just take everything that Heyman says with a box of salt.
Now, kids, being eaten by a crocodile is just like going to sleep; in giant blender.
This.
Who cares what a “rival GM” has to say about a guy with 42 PA’s. It’s ridiculous any way you slice it.
Save Jenrry Mejia!
If a rival GM really said this
Then we need to trade with this GM because he is a moron.
Funny
I always thought Emaus looked like an Ewok.

we should make it an unofficial official AA rule= stop posting Heycrud's stuff
"Fantasy, reality, science Fiction. Which is which? Who can tell?"
If only Emaus was a Boras client
Heyman would either not report this, or write that Emaus has shown promising signs , and needs more at bats.
...the thing is a LOT of guys who get the axe before getting "fair chances"
does that really make them worse than say, a guy like Pablo Ozuna who got the chance?
remember guys, Nelson Cruz didn’t fully blossom until a few years ago…not comparing Brad Emu to him. but if you don’t give guys a shot, say a full year or even 250 at-bats, what is a real opportunity to shine?
Could Brad Emaus turn into a lesser version of Scutaro? Or even a Jeff Keppinger? oh well, the Mets historically don’t give guys like that a chance anyhow and they turn into decent enough players elsewhere.
good luck Brad.
"Fantasy, reality, science Fiction. Which is which? Who can tell?"
That's what I hate.
Giving guys like Scutaro or Keppinger almost no chance and then watching them blossom into average to solid players elsewhere, while filling said hole with a washed up and expensive player who’s equal to or worse.
Not saying Emaus will become that, but the guy does have solid stats in the minors and a good eye and guys like Scutaro and Keppinger (to name a few) both had solid minor league numbers. It takes a little patience, something the Mets don’t seem to have and quite honestly, it’s a waste of resources. It’s a similar argument with Nick Evans. The Mets never give him a legit chance and he’ll probably go elsewhere and become the guy they’re trying to make Scott Hairston into. We just never give these guys the chance to prove that they can do the job.
