Injuries and a crappy supporting cast are the reasons why Reyes and Wright have not had the opportunities year in and year out. Just look at the garbage Omar put around them, and then asked for them to go make the playoffs. Yeah they had other great players in Beltran and Delgado, but for every star there was a broken Pedro(I love Pedro, not knocking him just stating the facts when he was here) A 40 yr old Glavine, El Injury, I mean El Duque and a Castillo. Omar built teams that were potentially great on the surface, but with no substance behind them to withstand any blow. He had no depth to handle any injury of any significance.

Watching Reyes grow up before our eyes has been so exciting. He is so much fun to watch and just makes me laugh when he freaks out on the bases after sliding in for a triple, as he pounds his chest pointing and screaming. He is the heart of this team, and while his skills are outstanding, it is both of them combined that result in Mets wins when he is in the lineup. I will be devastated as will so many other Mets fans if I have to see him in another uniform. Why is it that we as Mets fans never get to enjoy watching a player come up through the farm, develop into a star and take us to a WS and retire as MET!  Everyone potentially great we ever brought up was either traded way to early or fell for various reasons Ex:(Gooden, Straw, Seaver, Nolan Ryan ect..). This is easily seen in the Mets record books as Reyes and Wright hold a slew of records that should be held by former Met greats, and yet neither of them have even played 10 seasons in a Mets uniform yet.

I hope Sandy's sees and realizes Jose's value this season. If the Mets could ever get a real #2 starter, a real major league 2b and a major league caliber RF, then maybe the greatness of Reyes could actually matter.  If he leaves everyone will realize that while you can replace some of his skills, it is harder than you think to replace his infectious personality.  Not to mention he is only 1 of 3-4 (hanley, Tulo) guys who's skill set is of HOF caliber at the SS position in the game today.
