I started thinking about this because I saw a mention that Endy Chavez is back playing for the Texas Rangers, coming back from a bad injury. This brought back memories of both Endy's fantastic catch (one of just 2 plays, along with the Boise St. hook 'n ladder touchdown, that I watched with my jaw fully dropped and my hands on my head) and his awesome defense that same season (I am fully of the belief that he played gold glove caliber defense that season at all 3 outfield positions, albeit without the requisite number of games at any of the positions). Endy will always have a special place in my heart. This got me thinking of my favorite alltime random Mets; players who were not stars in any way shape or form but whom I just loved to watch play.
As such as I am only 22 years old, my memories of the Mets only go so far back. As a kid my favorite player was HoJo and I remember Dallas Green. I don't have so many options when it comes to favorites. I do have a few though besides Endy. Turk Wendell, Mets reliever in the late 90's will always be one of my favorite players. The dude used to pick up the rosin bag and violently throw it into the ground following strikeouts. He also used to chase after all popups, no matter how far they were from him. Guy was a weirdo but I really liked him.
The other guy who stands out to me is Rick Reed. He was a very very solid starting pitcher for the Mets and he was my favorite pitcher (even ahead of Leiter) in the late 90's. I can't say for sure why I liked him so much, just that I did.
Runners Up: Tsuyoshi Shinjo and Benny Agbayani. I loved em both
