Take Our Mets, Please!
Ian O'Connor of ESPN New York discusses the merits of Bud Selig taking over the Mets (like what happened to the Dodgers). I found it interesting, wanted to hear what you all think.

The tone of the article seems to be
a little too “The Wilpons are obviously guilty of being in cahoots” for my taste, but the main point is still something I can get behind:
Bud Selig needs to overtake the Wilpons and put us out of our misery. We can’t take this anymore. Get somebody in here who is willing and able to make this team the consistently dominant force that a New York team should be.

I'd rather see a neat and clean sale without baseball takeover
So Let It Be Written, So Let it Be Done.
yeah
can bud just tell him to sell a majority stake?
I LIKE IKE!
Doubt it
But I suspect that this minority owner prospect is ready willing and able totakeover

No. I'd rather have more of this nonsense than have the MLB take over operations.
Look at what the MLB dicking around with Montreal did to them. Sure, they were never all that great to begin with, in terms of both money and star power, but the Nats are still recovering from all that. Imagine how that team would be different if Omar (at the time) had a little more money to spend than the MLB was willing to throw, and they kept their Cliff Lees, their Brandon Phillips’, their Grady Sizemores’, their Cliff Lees, Jason Bays, their Chris Youngs, and all these other guys.
I don’t want the MLB coming in and saying to Sandy, “Here’s a strict limit we’re going to allow you” (say, for argument’s sake, $100 million), and us not having the flexibility, either via money or bureaucracy, or whatever else, to not do things Sandy might want to do. You think the MLB would allow Sandy, as GM, to sign players overslot? We already know Bud Selig doesn’t like that.
It’s not as if the MLB coming in and taking over operations would fix anything. They’d make things a hell of a lot more messier than the Wilpons being the owners now, then them and some sort of minority partnership in a few months.

you don't think the mets would find a willing buyer in a second?

hard for the value to be lower too

Montreal ≠ New York
There are potential owners lined up to buy a 100% stake of the Mets. If MLB were to force a sale, barring litigation, it should happen fast.
Also, I don’t see the budgetary restrictions that were imposed on Montreal being imposed on the Mets. Texas was much less restricted in 2009 when MLB stepped in. I also believe that Sandy would be able to persuade Selig to get near complete control until a sale is finalized.

This.
The Rangers were actually allowed to acquire Cliff Lee last season under MLB’s watch.

Where are the owners?
As it is, we have reports that there are difficulties getting that minority share sold, with stories a few days/weeks ago that the people the Wilpons were going to sell that <49% share to backed out during the final stages of the deal. No doubt, buying the whole team would be a lot easier of a thing to do, since once you pay, they’re yours, but we haven’t exactly heard about people lining up or anything.
With a budget restriction, I could see the MLB giving about as much as the Wipons might give- $100 million or so. To throw us some more, like Montreal, all the other owners and big-wig MLB officials would have to vote to allow it, and why would most of them want that? They were all pretty unwilling to throw more money to Montreal, and who the hell gave a shit about them, more or less?

Steve Greenberg has said that many groups were turned away because they only wanted a majority share
There is a big difference between buying a minority share in an over-leveraged enterprise with incompetent majority ownership, and buying the whole thing.
The Montreal example is not a good one. It was a disaster, and MLB seemed to have learned from that experience with how they handled Texas in 2009. I would use the Rangers as a paradigm for what could be expected.

Yes.
It is for the best interests of MLB that the second largest team has a very healthy base bringing in $billions$ for the franchise and league.
Bring in MLB.

Why would Bud Selig "authorize" him to draft overslot
when Bid Selig hates when GMs draft players overslot. Without drafting overslot, the Mets would still be able to draft amateur players, sign FAs, sign IFAs, and so on, so in the minds of those people, the Mets are restocking, getting healthy, etc.

Eh
Ive been saying this for months but its a dammed if you do, dammed if you dont. If MLB takes over, the team will be even more handicapped but if a sale is put up the rest of the NL East and the Yankees would vote down any potential owner who would spend money and actually fix the team to be a contender not just fill seats like Selig and Wilpon want. Which sadly would eliminate owners like Mark Cuban.

The Yankees couldn't veto a sale by themselves
Although the Steinbrenners would probably use whatever influence they could to stop it. I suppose it depends on how much they’re liked.

True
But it wouldnt be just the Yankees it would also be our division as well. They will also will try to drum up fear that a new potential good owner for the Mets would make baseball more expensive.
