Tyler Chatwood is pitching against the Mets today and since he's a rookie from the American League, I thought it would be enlightening to look into him a little bit.
The Basics:
He is 21 years old, throws right handed, is 6'0 and 185 pounds.

The Overview:
As you can see from the chart, Tyler Chatwood does not strike too many guys out and walks a few too many. Though his ERA is 4.20, the Defensive Independant metrics are a little harder on him, the worst being his tERA at 5.38. His components are awful. To put is simply, Chatwood has been getting lucky.

Chatwood is a hard thrower. That's it. His Whiff Rate is putrid. He has a very hard time inducing swinging strikes. He is extremely hittable. He only throws his Changeups to left handed batters.
The Control
This is the area where you can really tell Chatwood needs some more minor league seasoning. He has a hard time locating his 4-Seamer in the strike zone. His other pitches end up in the direction which they naturally break towards, in other words, his 11-5 Curveball ends up low and in to left handed hitters more often than not. So too, his 2-Seam Fastball and Changeup end up outside to left handed batters.
