AAA - Buffalo Bisons (26-31)_______________________________________
BUFFALO 1, GWINNETT 7 (Box)
Pat Misch was very hittable, and was probably lucky to escape with just 6 runs on the night as the Herd played some solid defense behind him. This was a mismatch from the start, as Julio Teheran is one of the better pitchers in the minor leagues and pitched fairly well. It's nice to see Fernando Martinez and the Duda have some success against a legitimate ML caliber starter, although it's scary to think he's going to be terrorizing the Mets for years in that Braves rotation. A fun fact from this one...Pat Misch is the only remaining member of the season opening Buffalo rotation on the team.
- RF Fernando Martinez: 2-4
- CF Kirk Nieuwenhuis: 0-3, BB, K
- LF Lucas Duda: 1-3, 2B, BB, K, R
- SS Chin-Lung Hu: 0-4, 3 K
- LHP Pat Misch: 6 IP, 6 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 HR
AA - Binghamton Mets (18-35)_____________________________________
BINGHAMTON 7, AKRON 4 (Box)
Brad Holt was shaky early, but limited the damage to a solo home run from Beau Mills in his four innings of work. The B-Mets offense jumped all over Akron in the third, with their first 7 batters reaching base in the five run frame. The win ended a stretch of seven straight series losses for Binghamton, and they have a chance for the sweep later today.
- 2B Reese Havens: 2-5, 2B, R, RBI
- LF Eric Campbell: 1-4, RBI, BB, 2 K
- 1B Allan Dykstra: 2-3, 2 BB, 2 RBI, R
- RHP Brad Holt: 4 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, HR
Hi-A St. Lucie Mets (29-27)________________________________________
ST. LUCIE 0, PALM BEACH 3 (Box)
Scott Moviel pitched well enough to keep the Mets in the ballgame, but the Palm Beach pitching staff combined to four hit the Mets. Hard to find too much fault in this one though, the Mets were making consistent solid contact but everything last night was just hit right at a fielder. Some nights are just like that. Jefry Marte had himself a very nice evening without recording a hit, walking 3 times and swiping a bag.
- RF Cesar Puello: 0-4, K
- CF Matt den Dekker: 0-4
- 3B Jefry Marte: 0-1, 3 BB, SB
- LF Juan Lagares: 1-3, BB
- 2B Rylan Sandoval: 1-4, 2 K
- C Francisco Pena: 0-3, K
- RHP Scott Moviel: 6 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Lo-A Savannah Sand Gnats (30-25)__________________________________
SAVANNAH 2, KANNAPOLIS 6 (Box)
Savannah got up early, but Kannapolis bunched their big hits together on the night to manage a pair of damaging innings. Gonzalez German was fairly solid despite giving up 5 runs, and Aderlin Rodriguez had himself a nice night at the plate. The Gnats still have a 3.5 game cushion on their nearest rivals as they near the midway point of their season, so the low minors may at least provide some drama in September.
- 3B Aderlin Rodriguez: 2-4, 2B, K
- CF Darrell Ceciliani: 1-3, K R
- RF Cory Vaughn: 0-4, K
- C Albert Cordero: 1-4, 2B, 3 K
- 2B Wilfredo Tovar: 1-4, RBI
- SS Robbie Shields: 0-3, RBI
- RHP Gonzalez Germen: 6.2 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
Star of the Night
Tough call tonight, as it wasn't a night full of standout performances in the Mets system. Allen Dykstra was excellent in the B-Mets win, reaching base in 4 of his 5 plate appearances. He continues to impress by not being Eddie Kunz.
