"I have two places in my heart -- St. Louis, because I’m from there, and New York, because this is where I started," Isringhausen told the Daily News. "Those are my two favorite spots, and I don’t think I’m going back to St. Louis anytime soon. And I love it here. ... To be able to get close, or maybe even make the playoffs, coming from a team that wasn’t supposed to do anything, that’s fun. If there is a chance that we can do that, I want to be a part of it."

That almost made me teary-eyed
I'm a New Yorker born and bred. I support my Jets, Mets, Red Storm and Islanders. I also love my out-of-state Bulls, Clippers, Cowboys & Fighting Irish.
I'm sure he felt this exact thing in spring training
when he said, to paraphrase, “take me or cut me.”
Maybe I’m not remembering this properly.

To be fair
He did give an ultimatum, but then stayed in spring training for a couple of weeks at the beginning of the season. I think he just didnt want to be jerked around, and was fine when Alderson asked him to wait until a spot opened up and he did.
Yes, he didn't need to give them that flexibility.
And he’s not contradicting himself at all. He’d prefer to be in St. Louis or New York. Being stuck in the minor clubs for those major league cities, not so much.
He said at the beginning of the season,
either he’d make the ML team, or retire. He didn’t want to dod around in the Minors, or not pitch good enough to merit being in the Majors

Cardinals
They actually would presumably be looking to add a relief pitcher, no?

that's exactly what i was thinking
They cut their closer from the beginning of the year. they do have a decent closer now, but it’s not that great of a pen. i think they’d be able to use someone like izzy…. worth a phone call at least.
I don't think that, realistically, anyone is calling for him, or that we'd get much from him, if he were traded
That said, retiring a Met is poetic. Same thing with David Cone. The only surviving member of Generation K came full circle.

That's sweet, honestly
Now trade him.

Keep him
Assuming Alderson & Co. manage to deal K-Rod, I´d like to see Izzy tutor Parnell & Beato in an on-the-job training as late inning relievers.
I think if Krod goes then there is a small need for Izzy in the pen setting up for Beato and Parnell.
He handles the pressure situations much better than either of those two and adds the clubhouse veteran too.
Don’t listen to Kannengieser. Keep him.

If we can get anything back, he's gone
He’s retiring at the end of the year, isn’t going to net us draft picks…When he hangs it up, that’s it. I’d rather turn him into something that we might possibly be able to use in some way next season and beyond.
