Bob Klapisch writes some trash, proves he doesn't know how to use Google
This is just a laughably awful article from Bob Klapisch that I felt the need to link to here. Here's the money quote:
"The Mets, of course, soon will be trading Beltran, which means it’s Reyes who matters now. general manager Sandy Alderson, who’s historically kept his distance from base stealers with low on-base percentages like Reyes, has reversed course and is willing to hang on to his mercurial shortstop — even if his industry peers can’t understand why"
Apparently Bob Klapisch either doesn't understand what constitutes a "low on base percentage" or he doesn't know how to use Google to research baseball statistics. Probably both. Pretty funny this came out on the same day that it was officially confirmed that Jose is going nowhere.

Started reading it but decided not to
That quote… how is he able to keep his job if he writes such drivel?
Writer states Reyes might take Wilpon's 5 year $100 Million offer and finish his career in NY.Does he realize
Reyes will only be 33 at the end of the contract?
that will be the end of his career
If Klapisch has his way
Ryan Miller was the true MVP. See my profile for rant.
My favorite
Who knew the Mets had this kind of money lying around?
Who knew the Mets didn’t? No one other than the Mets know what the true financial situation is. Everything else by fans, media, etc. is speculation.
Just because these media guys say or believe something doesn’t make it true. Yet, when actual facts contradict their speculations they act shocked as if someone lied to them.

I hate this "Reyes is not a moneyball type player" crap
He was a little inpatient in his first full season but doubled his walks the next season. Since 2006 he has an OBP of .354 and a Slugging % of .459. Pretty damn good for any player, but especially a shortstop. With a career 6.8% BB rate Reyes isn’t the most patient hitter and its one area he has worked on and improved but he has been able to good OBP regardless. A little further patience can go a long way to help him get through when his BABIP drops but all in all anyone who really understands the game can see how valuable Reyes is. So many people have completely missed the point on “Moneyball” and what Alderson and Beane were doing in Oakland.
The worst quote in the article was
where Klapisch quotes some “executive” who said “Sandy is crazy if doesn’t trade just to please the fans.” How about not trading Reyes because he is a good player? Its not like we are talking about a fan favorite player with an OBP under .300
Sheer stupidity? when a business listens to its customers.

Right, but the point I was making
is that not trading Reyes is good business, whether or not the fans want him to stay. The premise of the article seems to be that Reyes is not a guy Alderson would typically sign but he is caving in to the pressure of the fans. If Reyes was worthless but nonetheless adored by Met fans than yeah, I would agree that it is bad GMing to resign him. Of course we all know that Reyes is valuable. One big point that I think Klapshit missed is how it is to find good hitting short-stops who can field. Relative to other short-stops Reyes is about as moneyball as you can get.
Fan favorite with an OBP under .300?
Who could that be?

For those who went to a lot of games, did the fans at the stadium really cheered for Francoeur?
