New York Mets Daily Farm System Report - 7/28/11

AAA - Buffalo Bisons (43-62)_______________________________________

SCRANTON/WB 3, BUFFALO 2 (Box)

Chris Schwinden had a very solid outing for the Herd, pitching 7 strong innings.  It wasn't enough, however, as Buffalo managed to put only 2 runs on the board courtesy of a Raul Chavez double.  An interesting but somewhat meaningless note to this one, Buffalo managed 9 hits during the contest and every starter had exactly 1.

Star-divide

AA - Binghamton Mets (42-63)_____________________________________

PORTLAND 5, BINGHAMTON 2 (Box)

Portland defeated the Mets 5-2 with a solid display to take the series in Binghamton.  Rumored (former) Alderson Beltran target Will Middlebrooks went deep to cap off the scoring in the 5th, finally coming to life after the Mets held him in check all series.  The Mets managed to get plenty of baserunners aboard against Stephen Fife, but just couldn't get any across the plate against the Sea Dogs starter.  All in all, it was a very typical B-Mets game.

Hi-A St. Lucie Mets (18-14)________________________________________

ST. LUCIE 7, DAYTONA 2 (Box)

St. Lucie exploded for 5 runs in the third to put this game out of reach early.  Marte and Flores both grounded out after a Zapata leadoff double, but the Mets then strung together 4 straight hits.  The final hit of the frame was a single from Cesar Puello which got by center fielder Evan Crawford allowing him to come all the way home.  Good hustle by the youngster on that one.

Short Season A- Brooklyn Cyclones (21-17)_______________________________________

CONNECTICUT 9, BROOKLYN 6 (Box)

Less than stellar pitching did in the Cyclones in this one as Jeffrey Walters was very hitable.  Danny Muno had another very solid game for the clones, and former second rounder Javier Rodriguez managed to draw 4 walks for the evening.  Brooklyn will be finishing off their series with the Tigers tonight before taking the road to visit Vermont this weekend.  I'll have some pictures from that series for you.

Applachian League (R)- Kingsport Mets (18-18)_______________________________________

KINGSPORT 13, GREENEVILLE 8 (Box)

This one wasn't the best pitched game we've ever had, but the offense was on their game last night.  Every Mets batter had at least 1 hit, and the first 5 batters in the order all had multi-hit games.  Anytime you get over 20 baserunners in a game, good things are likely to happen.

Gulf Coast League (R)- GCL Mets (17-14)_______________________________________

GCL METS 7, GCL ASTROS 0 (Box)

Eric Goeddel made his second appearance in the GCL yesterday, allowing 2 hits and striking out two in his two inning start.  He'll likely see one or two more short outings in Florida before making the jump back up to full season ball.  Goeddel set the tone for a very well pitched game where the young Mets allowed only 6 baserunners to reach.  Ariel Mercedes paced the offense with a trio of hits.

 Star of the Night

We need to look to Kingsport for this one, as Julio Conception had an excellent game.  Three for six with some nice power will earn him a gold star this morning.

Goat of the Night

Not many truly terrible performances, but one guy last night was irritating beyond belief.  After all of his anti-Beltran/anti-Wheeler/anti-Alderson ranting yesterday Greg Pomes gets the horns in a landslide.

Santana will be coming back then, so it wouldn't be to start

if he keeps this up, they should reward him with some bullpen appearances in September – he would probably be one of the best out of the pen with that K:BB of 101:36

Is he Rule V eligible soon?

I’m just asking because if he isn’t, they may not want to add him to the 40 man roster yet as they could probably use the spots for other players. Especially if Schwinden won’t be starting games this year. I don’t know how much of a consideration this is, but I’d guess it’s something to keep in mind.

I'm pretty sure

That Pomes is mentally challenged. For shame, Stephen! For shame.

Seriously though, his type helps make a strong case that there should be testing before you are allowed to access the interwebs. He brings down the world IQ with every ridiculous key-stroke.
