Instead of putting together my own 2,000 worder on the glory that was Beltran, I thought I'd contribute a graphical appreciation -- specifically, in venn diagram form -- for one of the greatest Mets who ever lived.

Great graphic
I’m surprised that no one has done a Retrospective “selfish Beltran” thread now that he’s gone.

Yeah, but you missed
Teh ringzzz
Squeezed to Song and Bendtner and Song and Nasri oh lovely lovely lovely!
-Peter Drury, the one time his commentating has ever been acceptable.
That wasn't included because
the list would consist of only Beltran. No one else is as unclutch.
sweet.

Love Dubs but
the MVP votes and AS nods are the two least impressive petals there, imho

Gold Gloves
easily the least impressive petal. And Wright’s got 2 of those. All Wright needs is one monster 40 HR season which powers us into the playoffs, hit 3 HRs in a series, and then get the obligatory “best offensive player wins the Gold Glove unless there’s a real standout defensive guy” Gold Glove, and then he’s on this list.

Wow, really brings out
how amazing he was

My memory fails me
Why did neither Beltran nor Reyes make the all-star team in 2008? Were the Mets still afflicted by the post-collapse hangover?

Sad to see him go,
Thanks Rob for the great graphic, Beltran did a lot for the team and he deserves to be remembered as a great Met. To bad so many of the fans can’t forgive him for game 7.

Awesome graphic
But you are missing the stem to the flower.
Which, as we all know, is love. Only love makes this flower grow.

I guess I like Beltran
Although he was overpaid…. And I think he was not always good in the clutch…. However, he did put up some good numbers…. and he had that fantastic mole…. I guess I think he was great but I dont think he was great… UGH.

The good news is
Beltran was traded, but a deal could not be worked out for his mole. Moletran will undergo season-ending surgery this week, but I’m expecting another big year in 2012.
These are great.
I thought Kingman had 40 homers one season, guess not.

He did, 48 with the Cubbies in 1979.
He even had 35 in his final season, according to BBRef, which is something you don’t see very often. (35-30-35 his last three seasons, with Oakland.) Remember that he played in an era when 35-39 was usually enough to lead the league.
Reply fail, and this time it was the board.
I DID hit ‘reply’ before I started typing. (That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.)
Hmm
Didn’t know Carlos Beltran would be the only person in that middle “Carlos Beltran” part. I thought HoJo had at least one year where he went Carlos Beltran
Mets Career Leaders
It’s kind of fun to look at the following page and see Carlos’s name all over the Top Ten lists, yet he doesn’t appear on Games Played, PAs or ABs, meaning he accomplished more than most Mets in even less time.
