Summer cleaning yielded this gem: a 1999 Mets Magazine featuring Rickey Henderson on the cover. Rickey's "mom jeans" style of wearing his uniform pants is displayed prominently. The free John Olerud poster promised on the cover has been lost to the ages, unfortunately.
This is the scorecard and program on sale during May 1999 at Shea Stadium, specifically from the May 29th game which the Mets lost 8-7 to the Diamondbacks. Four players homered, including Olerud and Benny Agbayani, who was in the midst of becoming a cult hero. Byung-Hyun Kim made his MLB debut that day, striking out Mike Piazza to end the game. John Olerud?
That’s funny, because Rickey once played with a guy who wore a helmet in the field like that.
