AAA - Buffalo Bisons (53-71)_______________________________________
BUFFALO 4, TOLEDO 2 (Box)
The Herd grouped some hits together in the first two innings, jumping out to a three run lead after two. That would be all the run support the pitching staff would need, as starter Miguel Batista went 8 strong and only allowed 5 batters to reach base. Dale Thayer pitched a scoreless 9th to seal the deal for the Bisons.
- IF Josh Satin: 1-4, 2 K
- SS Jordany Valdespin: 1-4
- 3B Zach Lutz: 1-3, 2B, BB, K, RBI
AA - Binghamton Mets (52-71)_____________________________________
NEW BRITAIN 7, BINGHAMTON 3 (Box)
Binghamton left 11 men on the basepaths last night, leading a very good offensive night in general to produce only three runs. That scoring output just wasn't enough to cover Brandon Moore who had a very rough outing. Brad Holt did have a solid inning of work in relief, he's been looking fairly solid in the bullpen lately.
- 2B Reese Havens: 2-5, 2B
- LF Juan Lagares: 1-4, 2B, BB
- 3B Eric Campbell: 1-4, R, SB(5)
- CF Matt Den Dekker: 1-3, 2B, K, RBI
- RHP Brad Holt: IP, 1 H, 2 K
- RHP Brandon Moore: 5 IP, 9 H, 6 ER, 2 K, 2 BB, HR
Lo-A Savannah Sand Gnats (32-19)__________________________________
ASHEVILLE 5, SAVANNNAH 2 (Box)
The 6th inning did in the Gnats last night, as the four runs the Tourists put on the board were enough to assure they pulled out the win. Trailing 5-1 in the 9th, Blake Forsythe killed off any chance of a potential rally by hitting a selfish solo shot to lead off the inning. With the rally effectively killed before it could start, the Gnats went quietly away to end the game. The Gnats now head to Greeneville to pay a 4 1/2 game series due to a game suspended earlier in the year.
- CF Darrell Ceciliani: 2-4, 2B, 2 K, SB(20)
- 3B Aderlin Rodriguez: 1-4, K
- C Blake Forsythe: 1-4, HR, RBI, R
- C Albert Cordero: 0-3, BB, 2 K
- RHP Erik Goeddel: 5 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 3 K, 2 BB
Short Season A- Brooklyn Cyclones (33-24)_______________________________________
BROOKLYN 5, JAMESTOWN 2 (Box)
Brooklyn came back from the all star break with very little signs of rust. They put 4 runs on the board in the first 2 innings en route to their 3rd straight win. Marcos Camarena had swing and miss stuff tonight, and Danny Muno and Javier Rodriguez continued their run of good play. Combined with the Staten Island split in their double header, the Clones have now climbed within 4 games of the Yankees.
- SS Danny Muno: 1-3, 2B, BB, RBI, R
- RF Javier Rodriguez: 1-3, 3B, BB, RBI
- 3B Brian Harrison: 0-2, 2 BB, K
- OF Chase Greene: 0-3, BB, R
- RHP Marcos Camarena: 4.2 IP, 5 H, ER, 8 K, 2 BB
- C Camden Maron: 2-3, RBI, K, 2 R
- LF Julio Concepcion: 1-4, R
- OF Gregory Pron: 0-3, BB, K, R
- C Jeffrey Glenn: 1-4, 2 K, RBI
- LHP Juan Urbina: 6 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 3 K, 2 BB
- CF Eudy Pina: 1-5, K, RBI, R
- C Jeyckol De Leon: 1-4, BB, 3 K, 2 RBI
- 1B Ryan Hutson: 0-5, K, BB
- SS Randoll Santana: 2-5, 2B, K, RBI
- RHP Gabriel Ynoa: 2 IP, 2 H

5th-rounder Jack Leathersich continues to dominate with Brooklyn
New career total: 8.2 innings, 20 strikeouts! (Need I mention that the major league record for a 9-inning game is 20 strikeouts? Of course, this is a series of relief appearances in the New York-Penn League, but still: props to the kid.) He’s certainly made the biggest splash of any of our draftees so far. Wouldn’t it be nice if the Mets organization could actually be a pipeline of quality relief arms?
Maybe someone can verify if I'm right
I think Leathersich is going to be a starter and they’re just using him as a reliever now to limit his innings.
Definitely an awesome pro debut!

That seems to be their plan
He’s probably a reliever in the end, but he’s going to get a chance to start next year.

Yeah, all the draftees are being used in relief now
Report on Leathersich is that he loses his plus velocity as a starter, so it’s unlikely that he starts long-term, but I imagine the org will use him as a starter next year, if only for the playing time.
also because he is more valuable to them as a starter
and he could add strength to his arm as he develops physically so that he can make it as a starter. I mean, a dude pitching this well should be given lots of chances to start

Sure
You might as well try, although Leathersich doesn’t sound like he has a lot of physical projection left (listed at 5’11", 205). But if he becomes a shutdown reliever, that would still be a big win. It’s kind of shocking how poor a job the Mets have done developing home-grown relievers in recent years.
LOL
Ridiculous.

El Grande. How come we don’t hear more about this kid?
I leave a comment expressing my amazement at his numbers this year every week
he just had not shown much bat before last season, as he had been pushed a bit too fast by the Minaya regime. He is making a huge name for himself this year, Backman was praising his defense in the OF (which he just started playing last season) and overall ability, calling him a major leaguer in a recent article over at espn/metsblog

I recall Toby Hyde writing a while back about Forsythe having a strong second half
Is that still true? And is his development as a catcher being hurt by splitting time with Cordero? If so why not send him up or down?

Well, he's hitting .232/.370/.401 in the second half
Which is better than he was doing before.
Forsythe and Cordero are both playing pretty much every day, alternating at C and DH, which seems like a reasonable approach to me. You don’t necessarily want to put a minor leaguer through the rigors of everyday catching anyway, at least early on.
I want to see what Centeno can do if given a chance to start all the time
Toby Hyde recently writing how some scouts think he could be a legit prospect. Think it is safe to say he passed Francisco Pena on the depth chart, at the very least.
GORSKI starting tonight!!!

who is Centeno?
and at this point no one is even looking at Pena when discussing the catchers in the org. EVERY catcher in the org has passed Pena.

he still getting more playing time at St Lucie than Centeno
He has been a backup in the past but his bat has shown decent life the past two seasons (specifically in Brooklyn last year) and at least deserves a chance to start at St Lucie over Pena before Cordero moves up and blocks him forever

I guess that makes sense
for some prospects, but Forsythe was a catcher in college so hes alread used to the rigors of catching regularly
