Izzy, Byrdak and Hairston claimed on waivers, subsequently pulled back.
Of course meaning that these three now cannot be traded for the rest of the season.
So lobby Adam Rubin.

Why would we hold onto Hairston or even Byrdak?

Hairston has been a pleasant surprise this season.
The fact that he was gotten on the cheap makes this a smart acquisition. Plus, he’s an upgrade over Cattalonotto, Jacobs, and GMJ combined.
I say retain his services at around the same price.

They got claimed
and a deal couldn’t be worked out with the claiming team. The Mets pulled them back and now they can’t be placed on waivers for a month.
Not to mention that the team still has a month and a half games to play, so it makes little sense to deal these cheap vets for little in return. I’d like to see both Hairston and Byrdak back next year on reasonable deals, anyway. They’ve been excellent pickups.

Hairston, I'd hold on to him because I'd want to sign him again for 2012
Waiver trading him away, not exactly the best way to agree to come back. Byrdak, not sure, though. I guess Sandy didn’t think the other team was offering anything decent enough. I’d rather see O’Connor next season, but Byrdak works (whereas O’Connor is a question mark), so maybe it’s like what I said with Hairston above.

Maybe Sandy wants Byrdak back for next season
which makes sense considering the fact that’s he been one of our few good relievers this season

The 2011 Mets- Rock bottom: We haven't reached it yet
why would we let him go
he has helped win a few games, and it doesn’t hurt to have him on the bench, it actually makes it stronger

Atlanta made an offer for Hariston before the deadline
But Sandy nixed it at the last second.
Hairston is a perfect bench player with power and the ability to play all 3 outfield positions.Byrdak fills a lefty
reliever role and Izzy would not return anything.Still am shocked that Jason Bay and his contract went through waivers unclaimed.SHOCKED!
