AAA - Buffalo Bisons (47-63)_______________________________________
BUFFALO 9, ROCHESTER 6 (Box) SP Chris Schwinden was shot up in the second but held on through four more scoreless innings in a nip-and-tuck struggle with our rivals on the Erie Canal. The second inning looked to have promise, as Fernando Martinez blasted a "healthy" shot over the right field wall and clapped Val Pascucci's hand at home -- but just as quickly the Red Wings charged past. Mike Baxter evened things with an RBI triple, and Nick Evans scored the go-ahead run trotting proud and unmolested around the home run circuit. In the seventh, Mike Baxter legged out his second triple of the evening and Josh Satin -- who hits twice a game -- collected his second hit. Rochester's ramparts were broken, and the Bison eighth was an unkept, tousled affair of wild pitches and batters walked home, etc., establishing a wide lead. LHRP Taylor Tankersley tried to make it interesting by hitting his first batter and surrendering a home run ball to the next. That was kind of interesting, but it ended at that.
- RF Fernando Martinez: 1-4, R, HR, 2 RBI; .254/.327/.400
- 3B Josh Satin: 2-4, 3 RBI, BB, K; 40 ABs in Buffalo: .325/.372/.450
- 1B Nick Evans: 2-5, 2 R, HR, RBI, 2 K
- CF-RF Mike Baxter: 2-5, 2 R, 2 3B; 9-24 in Buffalo
- RHP Chris Schwinden: 6 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, 6 K, 1 HR
AA - Binghamton Mets (44-65)_____________________________________
NIGHT OFF
Hi-A St. Lucie Mets (19-18 | 57-50)________________________________________
ST. LUCIE 1, DUNEDIN 9 (Box) Two month of Carlos Beltran toed the rubber for his first time as a Met and started off lousy, mussed up for three singles and a triple in a three-run frame. Zack Wheeler was unbowed, though, and pulled together a brisk, two-strikeout second inning and a just-as-tidy one-K third. After recording his fourth strikeout to begin the fourth, the righty again buckled under a series of singles that he was lucky to limit to one run. Wheeler exited his debut after four innings pitched sporting an even 9 ERA. If you want the bright side, he struck out four and walked nobody. If you want the bright side of this game, it was called after seven innings.
- RF Cory Vaughn: 0-2, BB, CS(2)
- 3B Jefry Marte: 0-3
- SS Wilmer Flores: 1-2, 2B, RBI
- RF Cesar Puello: 0-3, K
- C Francisco Pena: 0-2
- RHP Zack Wheeler: 4 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 0 HR, WP; In the California League: 88 IP, 3.99, 74 H, 47 BB, 98 K, 7 HR.
Lo-A Savannah Sand Gnats (23-14 | 62-44)__________________________________
AUGUSTA 4, SAVANNNAH 3 (Box) Panamanian southpaw Angel Cuan, who had walked all of eight batters this year before passing just one today, cruised through the better part of seven innings and bowed out with the 3-2 lead. The first two Sand Gnat scores came off the tripling bat of Luis Nieves -- part of a 3 hit performance -- and the third came around on a legged-out Cecilliani infield single. Luck ran out in the eight as the relief corps surrendered a pair. Nieves singled to begin the ninth, was bunted over, but jogged for mere exercise when a balloon was sent up for the opposition to camp under, and that was the game.
- CF Darrell Ceciliani: 1-5, K
- 3B Aderlin Rodriguez: 0-4, K
- SS Wilfredo Tovar: 1-5, K, CS(5), E(13)
- DH Blake Forsythe: 0-3, BB, 2 K
- C Albert Cordero: 1-3, R, BB
- LHP Angel Cuan: 83.1 IP, 3.02, 79 H, 9 BB, 69 K, 7 HR
Short Season A- Brooklyn Cyclones (24-21)_______________________________________
VERMONT 1, BROOKLYN 0 (Box) The crack pitchers of Vermont gave up just five hits and left the Cyclones swimming in whitewash. The Brooklyn chuckers struck out ten and walked only a pair but were hung with the 1-0 loss.
- SS Danny Muno: 0-3, K, E(7)
- RF Javier Rodriguez: 0-4, K
- LF Travis Taijeron: 0-4, K
- CF Chase Greene: 1-2, 2B, BB, K
- RHP Jeffrey Walters: 4.2 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
- DH Camden Maron: 2-4, 2R, HR(2), RBI
- OF Gregory Pron: 3-5, R, K, SB(5)
- C Jeffrey Glenn: 3-4, RBI
- CF Eudy Pina: 1-5, R, 2B, BB, K
- C Jeyckol De Leon: 2-6, RBI, K, PO
★ Beaming Star of the Night ★
Maybe next time, Zack Wheeler. The heavy sluggers of Buffalo each catch my eye, with F! and Nick going yard and new guys Josh and Mike beating down the base paths. A two run, two triple night edges it for Mike Baxter, though, who has torn it up for his home town team and become a beaming star.

Have there been any Fulmer sightings yet?
Also any word on when the Mets are going to sign Nimmo and will he play at all this year or pull a Harvey and wait till next summer?
Nimmo
Reports yesterday (on either Metsblog or Metsminorleagueblog, don’t remember which) were that Nimmo will likely go down to the wire, as is common with first rounders. Sounds like he will almost certainly get signed; we’re just going to have to sweat a bit.

How does no one
take a chance on claiming Evans on waivers? Not even Houston?

It worked on the Indiana Jones movie, so it must be true.
In lobby for: Jaime Cevallos, Zack Lutz, orange unis and Rickroll as the 7th inning song.

Re: Wheeler — I can live with 7 homers in 92 innings.
Is he a groundball pitcher?
He gets GBs
right now. But he’s not a groundball pitcher. Bascially, SAL and FSL batters aren’t going to elevate good fastballs. But his fastball has little sink, so that should change as he moves up the minor league ladder.
