Phillies 10, Mets 0: Least Surprising Game of the Year

With Cliff Lee getting the start for the Phillies and Dillon Gee getting the start for the Mets, the series opener went about as well for the Mets as anyone who watches baseball would have expected.
Although Gee's shown himself to be a capable major league pitcher so far, his downward trend continued over the course of three-and-two-thirds innings of work. He struck out three but walked a staggering six in his brief outing, and for that, he paid dearly.
In the second inning, Gee gave up a single to Hunter Pence and got two outs before Pence advanced to second on a pitch that got by Ronny Paulino. Wilson Valdez singled to drive him in, Cliff Lee singled to keep the inning alive, and Shane Victorino tripled down the right field line to put the Phillies ahead by three.
Gee didn't fare much better in the third inning, even though he retired Chase Utley and Ryan Howard to start the inning. He followed that up by issuing one of his walks to Pence, and John Mayberry hit a line-drive home run to left field to extend the Phillies' lead to five.
To top it all off, Gee wouldn't make it out of the fourth inning after he started with a pair of walks to Victorino and Placido Polanco. He once again got Utley and Howard out, but then he walked Pence to loaded the bases and walked Mayberry to force in a run and put an end to his miserable night on the mound.
Ryota Igarashi was called upon to clean up the mess but allowed a two-run single to Carlos Ruiz before getting out of the inning, making the score 8-0 at the time. Iggy went on to allow a two-run bomb to Pence in the sixth inning to make it 10-0 in favor of the Phillies.
While all that was going on, Cliff Lee dominated the Mets for seven innings before turning the game over to the bullpen, which also kept the Mets off the board through the end of the game.
The series continues tomorrow night at 7:05 pm with Jon Niese getting the start for New York and Vance Worley on the mound for Philadelphia.

There's just no reasons to give Iggy any innings

Actually, this game was the perfect time to give him innings

LEE is DA Man
Well for the Phillies to leave LEE in for seven innings in a 10-0 game, means, they must have been worried that the METS would rally? Otherwise, pull your ace, give him a rest, and, work your pen, right?
If you haven't realized already, Charlie Manuel is a pretty dumb manager

wish we still had Chris Carter
He’d be getting some AB’s down the stretch. He needs things to fall his way to get a good look. If he was still on this roster it would be ideal for his career.

Time for your Eddie Lora Annual Update
According to his status on minorleaguebaseball.com, Eddie Lora is currently on the “Voluntarily Retired List.” The Mets still expect big things from the 22 year old switch hitter.
On a related note, Kolbrin Vitek, the 20th pick in the 2010 draft for the Red Sox from the Braves has struggled and currently has only 3 homers and a .337 wOBA in A+ ball. The Supplemental pick Bryce Brentz however is having a splendid season, after hitting .359/.414/.647, .461 wOBA, 11 homers and .288 ISO in 186 PA in A ball, he’s kept pace in 255 PA in A+ and currently has a .271/.329/.567 line with a .392 wOBA, 18 homers and .306 ISO. The biggest difference has been his drop from a .403 BABIP in A ball to .288 in A+.
Good work Omar. It’s amazing you don’t have a job anymore.
"Voluntarily Retired"
I guess that’s much more polite than ’You suck too much to keep playing". Thanks, Omar!

Protected draft pick, we're coming for you!
I’m excited about that. I hope the Mets lose basically every game left in the season except for Dickey starts. On Pelfrey and Niese starts, they can be low-scoring affairs, but we still lose. That way, everyone wins.

Nah, I think their AAA teams would still beat us.
I mean, the Mets are just AAA + Wright, Pagan, Dickey, Niese, and Pelf anyway.

Since Mike Carp came up on the SB Nation bar on the side
JJ Putz, Sean Green, Jeremy Reed: combined -1.2 WAR as Mets (made all the more obnoxious by Putz having two solid years since)
Mike Carp: 1.3 WAR in 165 PA this season

Don't forget about the other guys we gave away.
Endy: .7 WAR in 2009. Joe Smith’s been worth 1.1 WAR since the trade (with xFIPs of 3.52, 4.30, and 3.32). Ezequiel Carrera and Maikel Cleto both just made their debuts this season. Jason Vargas has been worth 4.3 WAR since the trade(!), which somehow makes him the most valuable player in the trade. Again, thanks a lot, Omar. It was fucking worth it to have 2 closers, wasn’t it?

Yeah, Joe Smith has been really good this year.
Combine him with O’Day and we’ve pretty much given away the two best sidearmers in the game for nothing.
For nothing!
That one Figuroa start sure mattered! Or, was it Fossum that we brought up?
