I don't understand how/why the "establishment" decided that an MVP needs to be on a playoff team
Before I learned more about advanced stats, it made sense to me that a guy on the lowly Pirates who hit .360 with 40 home runs and 130 RBI was a better player than the guy who was on the perennial champion Braves, who hit .340 with 31 home runs and 100 RBI. Being more able to isolate value via WAR, and being able to look past team stats, like RBI, it makes it even more obvious. How the people who cast the votes, and who actually play the game don’t always get this, I can’t even imagine…
