Kinda OT, but GRIT appears often

NYT article on some school headmasters attempting to find the correct formula to develop students. They meet a Psych prof and learn some fun things and create a two page evaluation to determine the strength of 7 character traits. And more happens than I can accurately sum up here. It's a great read, but every time 'grit' is mentioned I can't help thinking of baseball, BBWAA, and David Eckstein. Then there's this quote: "Sure, a trait can backfire," Witter said. "Too much grit, like Okonkwo, you start to lose your ability to have empathy for other people. If you’re so gritty that you don’t understand why everyone’s complaining about how hard things are, because nothing’s hard for you, because you’re Mr. Grit, then you’re going to have a hard time being kind..."
