Bonus Note: Pete Flynn, Mets groundskeeper, is throwing out the first pitch. Flynn has been with the organization since 1962 and is retiring after the game. He left Ireland in 1961 to join the team, and then helped build the ticket booths and the Polo Grounds. After the fans celebrated on the field in 1969, he had to re-sod the field three times. When the black cat was hanging out in front of the Cubs dugout, he was the one who chased the feline away. When the stadium was converted to a football stadium during the Jets years, he was a major factor in the process. He drove the Beatles from the stage out to the centerfield gate and their waiting helicopter in 1965, and then drove Paul McCartney to the stage when he played with Billy Joel. He has cut the grass every day when the Mets were home and three times a week when they were on the road.
Thanks Pete Flynn!
