Yankees get Pineda for Montero
I think this is about as even as it gets. But when you consider the Yankees don't really need Montero and they were desperate for another starter...Damn Yankees.

Pineda.. you've gotta be effing kidding me
Jack Z had arguably the best young tandem at the top of his rotation and not what one would describe as an embarrassment of riches in the rotation to pull from. I understand his offense is the text book definition of putrid but come the hell on with this caving on Michael effing Pineda. Not a chance in hell I’d say this was even for an effing DH, not a damn catcher. Of all the damn teams he had to end up on for phuck sake.

I agree on all parts of this
Except he could have been in the NL East. And who knows how that band box will affect him.

The one thing about the Mariners system is that
they have a bunch of high level starting pitching down there. Danny Hultzen, Taijuan Walker and James Paxton were all ranked as B+ or above prospects by John Sickels this offseason, so they’ve got a lot to deal from there.
But I agree to an extent. Pineda was awesome as a rookie and that’s with him not even throwing a changeup. If he could develop a change, he’ll be a stud. And then to give up a pitcher as talented as Campos on top of it is a bit of a headscratcher. I hate to say it but this looks to be a great deal for the Yankees.

great deal for the Yankees
I don’t get this trade for the Mariners, they already have a 1B in Smoak. And Campos is a pretty good prospect as well, better than Noesi.
The deal seems like it could work out for both clubs...
Pineda has some pretty dramatic platoon splits and Yankee stadium will make him look all the worse against lefties. He is still a two pitch pitcher, a potential ace in the making but still a work-in-progress that may never fully overcome fatigue and platoon difficulties. As awesome of a rookie campaign as Pineda had, he is not without question marks. He is way less established than Mat Latos, for example.
Also, my understanding is that the M’s system is stacked with young arms that project as top of the rotation types. Perhaps they felt that selling high on Pineda to get hitting was their best bet moving forward. Of course, I think Montero has been overhyped, so we’ll see who wins this trade in the end; frankly it has the potential to blow up in both team’s faces if one player crashes and burns.

Hmm,
this is an intriguing trade. At the surface, you’d think the primary pieces aren’t the best fits in their new homes. Montero is going to a park that is death for right handed batters & Pineda is going to a park that is harsh to flyball pitchers. Montero has an extra year of control so that might’ve been a motivating factor in Seattle’s decision. If Montero can hit like he’s been hyped up to be(I saw someone compare him to Mike Piazza FWIW), it won’t matter if he sucks behind the plate.
The funny thing about this deal is that the Mariners could’ve gotten Montero for a Cliff Lee rental. Instead, the M’s traded Lee for Smoak, who hasn’t really done anything of note. Bet Jack Z wishes he moved Lee to the Yankees back in 2010 now.
Live ironic and whatnot.
The Yanks signed Kuroda to
So they have 7 starting pitchers not including the killer B’s waiting in the wings. Most yankee fans are upset over this trade. They are really under valueing Pineda.
I can't stand the designation "Killer B's"
Who the fuck do they think they are? Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio are laughing their asses off. I would take Harvey/Wheeler over their fucking B’s anyway.

The point is they have 7 starters without dipping into
the Minors. They are set up pretty good with depth.
I'm not disagreeing with your point
I’m just bitching about Killer B’s, I know they’re a good team.

I hate the Yankees.
Sabathia/Nova/Pineda/Kuroda
Fuck em.
I typed your symptoms into this thing up here and it says you could have network connectivity problems.
Nova is a total mediocrity
Pineda will help a lot, but they’ve still got holes in the rotation.

I'd still take the Rays rotation and a healthy Sox rotation
The Rays have four guys in their rotation that could win a Cy Young award any given year, and the Red Sox have three. Sabathia is a stud, Pineda is a potential stud, but other than that…meh.

You're really underestimating Kuroda.
He’s probably not going to win a Cy Young, but he’s pretty good.

this trade is tough to analyze due to the polar opposites of hype
Seattle is baseball’s Antarctica, so nobody has any idea what’s going on there, and all Yankees prospects are hyped into the ionosphere. The feeling I’m getting from browsing different sites (including Lookout Landing) is that the Yankees may have come out ahead a bit.
It’s rare that two young uber-talents get exchanged like this. My mind drifts towards the winter of 1993-94, when the Expos dealt Delino DeShields for a skinny kid with a mustache and a jheri curl named Pedro….

Why does Seattle give up their good hands the way they do?
Its just odd

On the surface, this seems like a Yankees win
Montero has another year of control, but other than that…I would assume Jack Z knows what he’s doing.
We know Montero isn’t going to be catching, so this puzzles me a bit- the Mariners have a few 1B/DH types as it is right now.

It's not so much that I hate the trade
It’s more that I hate the idea of it, but whatever. I know what organization I root for. I know not to get too attached to anyone.

You still have Romine and Sanchez in the system.
What idea about it do you hate?

Romine can't hit and we'll see if Sanchez can catch or if he's supposedly Jesus 2.0
Forgive if this comes off as spoiled Yankee fan arrogance, but I hate the idea that we absolutely needed a #2 starter and that we weren’t making it to the playoffs with the makeshift rotation we had, even though with the makeshift rotation we had we won the AL East last year and made it to Game 5 of the ALDS and lost due to a lack of hitting, not pitching. We would’ve been fine this year because the organization is built to be fine every year. But no, we’re the Yankees and we always have to make a splash. There can be little to no uncertainty at all, even though there will always be uncertainty.

I can see where you're coming from
The Yankees lineup doesn’t have a lot of youth or upside at this point, and some players (A-Rod, Teixeira) are showing alarming signs of decline. Still, I think this is a much better “splash” move than some of the usual ones the Yankees make, like throwing millions at AJ Burnett.
The Yankees should be fine next year, barring a serious injury to CC. Boston looks like the screwed team, as they’ve done little to upgrade. TB is probably going to be better just by having a full year of Matt Moore and Desmond Jennings.

Oh it's not a bad trade at all
Like most people are saying, it’s actually a pretty good trade all things considered. I just hate why they did it. LoL, and you wanna talk about horrible splash signings, look no fucking further that Rafael Soriano.

Sanchez is supposed to be the average glove version of Montero (as opposed to the no-glove, real version).
Bit I get where you’re coming from and it’s refreshing.
Save Jenrry Mejia!
2012 Amazin' Avenue Offseason Plan: 2nd place
My philosophy with Montero's catching ability is really
If he hit like Piazza or even Posada, I would’ve been totally fine with it. Also, if he had NO value at catcher like everyone was saying, then why keep him there for so long? Start him on the transition to 1st base or something.

To keep his value higher.
To be clear, I think he’ll be able to fake it there for a bit while still young (like maybe until age 25) , but he’ll probably be at DH when he’s in his prime years.
Save Jenrry Mejia!
2012 Amazin' Avenue Offseason Plan: 2nd place
If that's the case
Then I could’ve dealt with him behind the plate waiting for Tex to get his mark off of 1st base or DH-Rod to vacate.

You guys stuck it out with Posada
SO Montaro can’t be that bad behind the plate. Especially if his hitting has a higher ceiling.
That was pretty much my reasoning
I’m 95% sure he catches for the Mariners next year.

As Crazy Nyce Dave as my witness
I stated after the 98 season that Yankees fan were going to be insanely spoiled after that season, and the next two seasons only made that worse. I knew this was going to happen. The Yankees have made the postseason on an insanely consistent basis for the past 16-17 years, and STILL they are not comfortable or satisfied. Last year with a makeshift rotation, they still made it and they’re STILL not comfortable or satisfied. It’s never fucking enough for them and it never will be.
