Hmm
I wouldn’t say this is rushing them…they’re just being invited to big league camp as non-roster guys. It’s always a good idea to get their feet wet with the big leaguers and to see what they can do as it’s pretty likely that they’ll both see plenty of time in AAA this year, if not the majors late in the season. As long as they don’t make the big league team out of spring training (which they won’t), then I see nothing wrong here.

Yeah
I have no worries that either one will actually make the team.

Also
Neither of them are on the 40 man roster yet, so I think the front office really has any plans of putting them in the opening day roster. Even if they have an amazing showing at spring training, it’s still only spring training. I doubt Alderson will do (more) 40 man roster shuffling to bring them on after several games in March.
You always root for laundry. Of course, you'd like to have good players in that laundry as well.
I think letting guys who are close to the bigs get their feet wet
Is a good idea, but I can understand your worries. If Dallas green was still the manager den Dekker would be the opening day CF.

I am a fan of this
In fact, smiled a bit when I read it. Agree with most of you above. This is not rushing them, as they are not on the 40 man roster and have a very small chance of that changing. It will get them some good experience with the big leaguers. Weren’t some of you projecting a potential September call up for Harvey if he performs well? This just gives him a taste. I am really excited to see how den Dekkr performs in practice.

feel like Familia should be brought in too
I would think that Harvey is given a long and serious look because we may need another starter from the get go

I don't see anything wrong with this
Its not like they are appointing them to be opening day starters. Spring training never really hurt anyone. Heck, if they preform well it would be a major confidence booster to them too.
Down 2 in the bottom of the ninth?
Lets Bring in Willie Harris!
Exactly.
If they’re not in big league camp, they’d just be biding their time in minor league camp, waiting until minor league spring training games start. Might as well get them some experience against better competition and reward them for their solid 2011 seasons.
