Bet they absolutely wish they traded him now
I don’t get why these guys don’t do whatever they can to get more than visas for permanent residence, do they not extend beyond the season? I know if I was this guy and had lied about my age and name then I would be too afraid to go home and get caught, seems inevitable they will.
Don’t feel bad at all for this guy though, lied and made millions and they can’t take that away
2012 New York Mets, World Series Champions!
Had they traded him previously
and received the trade value of a 28-year old pitcher in exchange for a 31-year-old one, it would have been a veritable Faustian bargain.

The team that would have recieved him would have gotten back
a player to be named later.

I would have gone with
“a player to be aged later”
but either one works.
One day, this team is going to kill me.

I'm sure a lot of them do try, but the process takes time.

I was expecting an article saying that the Mets should trade Wright for Heredia straight up.

Holy fuck I heard that on MLB network too
My jaw dropped and my fists started shaking, I thought I was having a seizure.

On a related note
Oliver Perez was also arrested for using a false name. Turns out his real name is Sandy Koufax.

I think an arthritic 76 year-old would have been more effective than Perez
Damn, he’s 76…He’s getting up there, and it’ll be a shame when it finally happens.

This is an epidemic
I don’t know if you can trust anything coming out of the Latin American countries with regards to names/ages etc.

Way more than two, no?
Miggy n Wandy are just two examples that come to mind
2012 New York Mets, World Series Champions!
I can think of a bunch more
Danny Almonte (not MLB, but from DR)
Miguel Tejada
Rafael Furcal
Orlando Hernandez
Juan Carlos Oviedo
Wandy Rodriguez
There’s a bunch more. The system needs to be reformed and nobody should simply assume these kids are telling the truth.

Well
If MLB would put the same restrictions for International Amateurs that they have in the United States, this probably wouldn’t be happening. This happens because teams know they don’t have to follow any rules in countries like the Dominican Republic. For all intensive purposes it’s an impoverished country and what kid isn’t going to lie about their age to make millions when they know scouts don’t care how good you are unless you’re 16. If you’re 19 and can hit the ball 500 feet it doesn’t interest as much as a lanky 16 year old who makes contact and they can “project” to be so much more. Just the way it is, and that’s how these kids are responding. And don’t forget it’s not always the player themselves, but their families too who may put pressure on them to lie and even help them do it so they can make money for their families.
You always root for laundry. Of course, you'd like to have good players in that laundry as well.

Not just the families, but the "talent scouts"
I remember watching a documentary on Netflix a while ago about it. One of the talent scout guys didn’t outright say it, but he implied it, that the difference between a 25% cut of a $500,000 contract and a $50,000 contract is the stroke of a pen (falsifying their ages).

Fernando Martinez is actually a perfectly healthy 19-year-old
named Martino Fernandez.
Sandy really screwed up letting him go.

He is like Daniel Larusso, who plays a 19yo, but is a 41yo actor.
In lobby for: Jaime Cevallos, Zack Lutz, orange unis and Rickroll as the 7th inning song.
The Unwritten Rules of AA
I heard he's actually a 43-year-old named Greg Oden.

Turns out
your mom lied, you’re really 64 but were developmentally stunted as a child. Sorry, but you asked for the truth
