Cordero signs with Blue Jays for 1 yr - 4.5 mil
So...can someone remind me why we signed Frankie Frank for 2/12 if (and I'm just assuming) Cordero was available under these conditions?

Because Francisco is better than Cordero
Most pitchers are, in fact.

The contracts
have almost exactly the same annual value ($4.5M vs. $6M) and Francisco is six years younger and also better. Just going by ERA and save totals Cordero still looks like a solid pitcher but his peripheral stats are absolutely horrendous and there’s no way he keeps pitching like an elite reliever.
Dang
I read a rumor where Philly was looking at him. I just want Philly to keep signing everyone for big bucks so when it comes time to sign Hamels, they either have to pay the luxury tax or let him go.

Because Francisco is better
And more importantly, Francisco on a two-year deal can be used as a trade chip for a prospect next offseason (or the 2013 deadline).

Well in the Mets defense Cordero's asking price was probably much higher when the Mets signed Fransisco.

Plus
His peripherals are bound to catch up to him sooner or later, and I’d rather not see the Mets stuck with him when it happens

We couldn't have offered him the same thing, or a little less?
Seems more likely to be traded to a contender from the Mets than the Blue Jays Seems more like he wins the WS with the Mets than the blue jays the other 29 teams
