He was always very close to Fred over the years and had his ear
There were some non contending years where teams showed interest in him and Mets Gms had to get permission from Fred to move him and he never gave it because he was very fond of Franco. Bobby V hosted shows on WFAN back in ‘04 and was asked about that and he said that he heard Franco would go to Fred to complain about Bobby. He said when Johnny didn’t get his way he would go to the guys upstairs. These days Franco shills for the Wilpons almost as much as Lupica does.
It is Franco
I think he’s well deserving, though a lot of people might disagree with me.
I’m glad it wasn’t Mike Piazza yet. That isn’t enough for him, he deserves a number retirement ceremony.

Good for Franco
I always liked him, nice to see him get some recognition from the franchise beyond backing up Gary Apple on SNY

Good for Franco. He deserves it
He’s the all-time leader in left-handed saves, all-time leader in saves on the team, was on the team for about a decade, was a team captain, veteran, quotes guy, community service guy, all that stuff.

I like Franco
When Piazza gets honored by the team, it’s sure to be more than just a Mets HoF berth. Retire #31! And retire #17 while you’re at it!
