Juan Pierre and Jon Garland.
Now that prices are falling and in an effort to replace speed and hitting at the top of the lineup why not sign Pierre. After seeing Jeff Francis take a minor league deal can Sandy get a Garland deal done?

Garland on a minor league deal would be fine
No interest in Pierre. Fukudome would be a guy I’d look to sign.

I just barfed at the thought of Juan Pierre on the Mets
then I looked at his stats and barfed again. Just what we all want and need, more barfing bunting. The only positive he brings any more is not striking out. His defense and speed are on the decline – he has stolen less than 75% of his attempts the past 3 years combined – and he makes Ruben Tejada look powerful. There is no quality about Juan Pierre that Andres Torres can’t outperform, except the striking out. Why him?

plus, he has always had shifty eyes
and apparently used to be a porn star…

Because Pierre sucks?
I’m cool with Garland though. He’d be a good bargain bin pickup

and why get Jon Garland to do what Chris Schwinden can do?
less than 5 k/9 for his career, with 3 BB/9

Trade to a contender for his "veteran presence"?
Save Jenrry Mejia!

I know you are stretching here, but he is too shitty to be relied upon by any contender
most teams probably have a Chris Schwinden equivalent at AAA and/or would want someone, well, good

Meh, I can less than 5 k/9 and more than 3BB/9 too

Pierre's speed has always been way overrated
He doesn’t get on base or hit for a high average so his speed rarely comes into play and on the off chance that he does reach base, he is way too aggressive as a base stealer. His career success rate is just under 75%, it was 61% last year and he’s lead the league in caught stealing 7 times in the last 11 years.
We could've signed Endy
Ugh…Juan Pierre, just isn’t Endy.

Dickey be Praised!
Pierre would be a useful guy to pinch run in a situation where we have Thole on second with 2 out in the bottom of the ninth in a one run game
unfortunately, you’re not allowed to carry 75 players on your roster.
Last I checked, speed is not very useful when you're sitting on the bench.
And from the looks of Pierre’s .329 OBP last year, he does a lot of sitting on the bench. No thanks.

can we play Duda in center instead?
I don’t think Bay has played there enough lately

or we could consider adding a fourth outfielder to the mix, like Adam Dunn!
and have 3 infielders

Ike David has the corners covered
Danny Murphy can vacuum everything hit up the middle.

Juan Pierre
Don´t think Pierre would be such a bad pick-up.
While he has been a miscast as an everyday player for the last several years, he does make a lot of contact and would certainly be somewhat of a scare as a speedy PH off the bench who actually hits lefties at least as well as righties. In fact, Pierre´s best season in recent history came a couple of years ago when he was backing up for Manny Ramrirez in LA and wasn´t a fulltime player. He has always been somewhat of a poor man´s Ichiro Suzuki with a 30 throwing arm instead of Ichiro´s 80 hose. I wouldn´t mind having him as the 5th OF for a very modest price.
From all I´ve heard about him, he´s also pretty good clubhouse person. Which Alex Cora, of course, supposedly was too and which usually doesn´t get you any wins. But still, with a mostly young team, maybe he can be a good influence.
And with the Mets really lacking speed, being able to insert Pierre as a PR in a tie game with Lucas Duda at 2b may also be worth something.
Meanwhile, Ankiel may have some pop and is a better defender than Pierre – but lacks contact / OB skills you´d probably want coming off the bench. Fukudome probably goes back to Japan anyway and isn´t good at anything, really – though he does get off to pretty good starts in April & May traditionally before collapsing.
As for Jon Garland, I´m not sure he´s healthy. Would be of interest as someone to rehab and then possibly have as an option by mid-year. That said, I´m not sure he´s a better bet than Mike Pelfrey going forward.
yeah Pierre would be ok
at $1M. I’d rather have Kosuke though.
