Friday Morning Applesauce: Mets hire financial help, actually perform physicals now
The big news for Mets fans today is pretty easy to identify. While the hiring of CRG does not mean the end of the road for the Wilpons, as Eric pointed it out is definitely good news for Mets fans. It's good to see that we may finally be nearing the end of this financial disaster so we can focus on being competitive again.
Another interesting story which popped up today was in regards to the Mets medical staff. Apparently the team has realized the importance of actually performing exhaustive physicals before handing out massive contracts to players or agreeing to ship out prospects in trades. That's real progress on two fronts this morning. So far, so good.
In other medical news, Sandy Alderson seems to be tempering our expectations for Johan Santana. I think that's certainly a wise plan at this point, but I certainly look forward to seeing what he looks like in spring training.
Speaking of pitchers coming off of injuries, Rising Apple has a poll up concerning our interest in re-signing Chris Young.
There was a few pieces of news concerning Japanese players today. First, Hisashi Iwakuma has agreed to a one year deal with Seattle. This looks like it could be a very shrewd signing for the M's as the A's bid almost 20 million dollars last year to win his rights via the posting system.
Like Iwakuma with the A's, the Yankees have failed to sign a player whose rights they have won via a post. There was a pretty widely held belief when they won his rights that the bid was made just to block other teams from acquiring the player, so the failed negotiations really come as no surprise. This seems to be a major flaw in the posting system as the player now must remain in Japan.
Speaking of the Yankees and their money, FanGraphs takes a look at why they have been acting so cheap lately. I'm sure Cashman will make it clear that he doesn't like the value on the market and such but I think we all probably believe that he'd be all in if it was a better year for pitchers.
Finally for today, Ryan Howard has been cleared to begin exercising. I guess that means Philly fans won't have to wait to long to find out he's not worth his 5/125 extension which has just kicked in.

No it is still false hustle
But because Sandy is here we no longer rely upon grission to make up our medical decisions.
Player X: “Doc, I think I may have a concussion.”
Mets Doctorb: “That is grissionless! Get out on the field!”

Belated congrats Eno
I loved watching trolls like Adam Rubin bitterly try to disparage this report because it didn’t come from them. Of course, they didn’t have the decency to attribute it, they just started batting it down without facts or crediting AA.

The CRG/turnaround consultant story
1. Eno breaks CRG story
2. Rubin tries to downplay it without mentioning the story he’s trying to knock down
3. Rubin sounds like a fool while doing so, not understanding basics of bankruptcy

yeah, and then he had to reluctantly admit that it was true
and then he basically stopped talking about it. Like, I didn’t break this story and neither did any of my buddies so it’s not a big deal. While it’s arguably the biggest story of the winter for the Mets so far!

Eno
Made real reporting rear it’s ugly head from the social media trash heap. Not only was it explanatory, but he didn’t use the news to take cheap shots at the organization. Simply stated what it could mean, gave a good point of reference, and opined on how this can effect the future of the organization. And I thought real reporting was posting something on twitter with a clever hashtag. Silly me…

Also, if you want to see something
shocking read Pomes’ twitter defense of the Wilpons/anti-Alderson hate. He basically says there is no evidence that the Wilpons are in any financial trouble at all. What a weirdo.

Only two ways to explain him
1. He’s a very skilled troll.
2. He’s got wayy too much pride to admit that he’s wrong.
Perhaps it’s a mixture of both.

Or perhaps he heard the Weird Al song "Dare To Be Stupid"
Thought it was awesome (can’t blame him)… and took it literally.
Oh pissing blimey there's jam coming out of the walls!
Where did he disparage the report?
"I only wanted a few things out of life -- a wife, children, to play baseball and to hunt deer." - Turk Wendell
I don't think he actually trashed Eno, but he's just strongly reiterating that the Mets
are not going to sell the team and toeing the company line in general.
Well isn't that the case?
Reiterating that the Mets aren’t filing for bankruptcy, and that this hiring doesn’t necessarily mean they are planning on filing for bankruptcy, shouldn’t mean that Rubin is doing some wrong or bad.
"I only wanted a few things out of life -- a wife, children, to play baseball and to hunt deer." - Turk Wendell
On this site the meme is that Adam Rubin waking up in the morning is bad.
I don’t get it, either.
got a nice mets tweet and facebook post
saying its not bankruptcy related. so we all know its totally not bankruptcy

Great work
breaking that story Eno. From this story to Dan Lewis with his excellent coverage on the Mets finances, Francoeur Wrongz Alderson Amazin’ Avenue is trying to take over the world leading the way in Mets coverage. And I like that the Mets are leading the way in providing very detailed physicals. I would’ve thought teams were already doing this, but apparently not.
And off topic stuff, it’s WildCard weekend in the NFL & here are the matchups:
Cincinnati at Houston
Detroit at New Orleans
Atlanta at New York
Pittsburgh at Denver
Who do you guys like in those games?
And more OT stuff, the fact that this bill is even being considered is enough to spook the shit out of me.
Live ironic and whatnot.
The Giants are either going to blow them out or be blown out.
They’re a weird team this year.
