Quick Recap: Marlins 3, Mets 2 — It's Almost Over

In his first major league start, Jeurys Familia issued six walks and struck out just one in four innings of work, but he somehow managed to keep the Marlins off the board throughout. As far as first major league starts go, Familia's was definitely one of them.

The Mets scored first on a David Wright single in the fifth, and they added another on a Mike Baxter double in the sixth. A two-run lead, however, was not enough for the Mets' bullpen.

Manny Acosta served up a solo home run to Giancarlo Stanton on the first pitch of the sixth inning. Jon Rauch got into trouble in the seventh and gave up a game-tying sacrifice fly to Jose Reyes, but he escaped without further damage. Ramon Ramirez kept the trend going by allowing the Marlins to score the go-ahead run in the eighth. The Mets did not score in the ninth.

We knew it was over when...

The Marlins took the lead in the eighth.

What else

  • R.A. Dickey will make his final start of the season tomorrow as he attempts to solidify his case for the National League Cy Young Award.
  • Mets pitchers issued nine walks in the game. Yuck.
