Meet the Mets
Formal talks with David Wright about a contract extension may begin as soon as next week, according to the Daily News. While Sandy Alderson has had informal talks with both Wright and R.A. Dickey since the season ended, the next step in the process is to get the agents involved.
Matt Harvey was ranked the #1 prospect in the International League for 2012 by Baseball America. The field wasn't very strong to begin with but hey, we'll take it.
Rising Apple continues their Year In Review series by looking at Ronny Cedeno, who had a surprisingly solid season off the bench.
Yesterday At AA
It probably isn't all that surprising but the Mets featured two of the least valuable players in all of MLB on their roster in 2012.
This Date In Mets History: October 12. The Mets were shut down by Orel Hershiser in game seven of the 1988 NLCS.
Around the Playoffs
If you missed it last night, there was an outstanding game played in D.C. between the Nationals and the Cardinals. For the majority of the night it looked like the Nationals would come out on top but in the ninth, the Cardinals bats took over and defeated the Nats 9-7. Washington was just one strike away from moving on to the NLCS before Drew Storen allowed four runs to cross the plate.
At Yankee Stadium, the Orioles were also bounced from the playoffs in a 3-1 defeat at the hands of CC Sabathia and the Yankees. Sabathia was dominant, tossing a complete game. Alex Rodriguez also found himself on the bench for the deciding matchup.
We're down to four teams left, as the playoff train goes full steam ahead to the Championship Series. The festivities open up tonight with game one of the ALCS. The Yankees host the Tigers, as Doug Fister takes Andy Pettitte at 8:00 PM on TBS.
With the Nats and Cardinals game still going on, the Giants had no idea where they would be playing their next game and they even watched the last inning from the tarmac, assuming the Nats would hang on to win. Game one of the NLCS between the Giants and Cardinals will be on Sunday.
Around the Majors
The Giants have reinstated Melky Cabrera to their 40-man roster but they still have no intention of activating him in the playoffs. This seems really silly.
The Diamondbacks are thinking about trading from their outfield stockpile (no, not Justin Upton) by dealing one of either Jason Kubel or Gerardo Parra. It wouldn't be surprising to see the Mets and Arizona as a match for a trade this offseason. I'd even take a look at Chris Young if they could land him for a little less coming off a down year.
Former Met Francisco Rodriguez was arrested back on September 17th for domestic violence, with another incident between he and his girlfriend. Looks like the anger management classes didn't work.
Rangers' reliever and free agent-to-be Mike Adams is going to have surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome, the same surgery that put Chris Carpenter out until September this year. That's a tough break for a guy who's established himself as an excellent reliever the last few seasons.
Finally, this is exactly what the internet was made for: hilarious photoshops of Jayson Werth's walkoff home run on Thursday (now that they're eliminated, I find that it stings less).
