Mets Morning News: Boring World Series Is Boring

Meet the Mets

Joel Sherman says this morning that the Mets could focus on outfielder Melky Cabrera, should his price fall into the $2-5 million range that many executives believe it will. That could be a great bargain for the Mets and he's got way more upside offensively than Andres Torres at around the same price. In that piece, he also mentions that while Kelly Shoppach is unlikely to be retained, they may have some interest in catcher Miguel Olivo, as they are looking to add power at minimal prices. Meh.

This Date In History for October 27: Lots of Mets related birthdays and a World Series victory. What a day.

Around the Playoffs

Game three of the World Series was another low scoring affair, as the Tigers were shut out by the Giants 2-0 to go up 3-0. I'm sure I'm not the only one who was hoping for a more exciting World Series but so it goes, I guess.

Game four is tonight at 8 PM and comes with the possibility of the Giants celebrating their second championship in three years with a victory. The Tigers' offense has struggled all series and now they get to face off against Matt Cain. Max Scherzer pitches for Detroit.

Around the Majors

MLB is working on fast-tracking pitcher head protection, after recent incidents involving Brandon McCarthy and Doug Fister. Probably a good idea, so nobody gets seriously harmed or worse.

Get ready to laugh, everybody: The Rockies interviewed former Mets' manager Jerry Manuel for their manager job. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Former shortstop Walt Weiss has also interviewed for the job and Matt Williams is scheduled to do so.

Jackie Robinson's daughter Sharon Robinson has been appointed to the Dodgers' board of directors.

The Royals supposedly have their eyes on Mariners' pitching prospect James Paxton. While he is a great pitching prospect, he's considered just the third best in Seattle's system behind Danny Hultzen and Taijuan Walker. It should be interesting to see how much Dayton Moore is willing to give up for him.
