I know, on one level, I should be pleased to see this. Good players leaving the division should always be greeted with smiles and high-fives. but having Reyes purloined from our ranks just eleven months ago, and remembering the agony I felt when one of my favorite players went to the suddenly-spendthrift Miami Marlins, I just can't help but be outraged by this whole thing. I'm no mathemagician, but Loria might actually be making money from revenue sharing at this point, and by that I mean that his payroll might not be enough to cancel out that charitable donation from the "haves" before a single ticket is sold. When combined with his felonious land deal with the county and the proportion of taxpayer debt held in his new stadium, I can't see how this is all legal, let alone ethical. We can't afford a bag of used athletic supporters, but this charade can go on in South Florida with seeming impunity. I miss Reyes, Tejada's success notwithstanding, and this whole thing just makes that worse. Much, much worse. Here's hoping Mr. Loria comes down with syphilis, but quick.
