Meet the Mets

David Wright and the Mets have exchanged contract offers, according to Ken Rosenthal. While terms are not yet available, this is certainly a step in the Wright right direction. Rosenthal, meanwhile, also stated that negotiations with R.A. Dickey are not as far along as with Wright.

Speaking of Dickey, the Cy Young will be awarded this evening and our favorite knuckleballer is one of the three National League finalists. The winner will be announced live on MLB Network at 6:45 PM. In the Daily News, Andy Martino says that the Mets should keep Dickey because he appears to be in the midst of an ascension in skill, despite his age. Jeff Wilpon also spoke positively on Tuesday morning on the status of Wright & Dickey, along with Johan Santana. Naturally, Santana says that he would like the Mets to keep Wright and Dickey.

Jon Heyman revealed some information regarding Jason Bay's deferred contract yesterday. The Mets have deferred $15 million of the $21 million sum that Bay was owed this season and he will be paid that amount over the course of the next two seasons.

Toby Hyde has an update on the Mets' hitters participating in the Arizona Fall League, which ends in a couple of games.

Former Mets catcher Rob Johnson has signed a minor league deal with the Cardinals. NOOOOOOOOO...okay, I'm over it.

Around the Majors

Well, this is both incredibly surprising and not at all surprising. The Marlins and Blue Jays hammered out a mega trade yesterday. Miami is sending Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle, Josh Johnson, John Buck and Emilio Bonifacio to Toronto in exchange for Yunel Escobar, Henderson Alvarez, Adeiny Hechavarria, and prospects Justin Nicolino, Jake Marisnick and Anthony DeSclafani. Wow. Here's a breakdown. It's probably about time for Bud Selig to do something here (meaning he'll probably just ignore it. It seems like Giancarlo Stanton was pissed when he found out about the deal. I would be too if I were him. Finally, speculation says that Ricky Nolasco is probably the next guy to leave Miami.

Athletics' manager Bob Melvin and Nationals' manager Davey Johnson were awarded the Manager Of The Year awards in the AL and NL, respectively.

The Cubs have inked former Twins' righty Scott Baker to a one year deal worth $5.5 million. Baker missed all of 2012 after having Tommy John surgery and may not be ready for Opening Day. He seems to be a pretty decent comp for what Mike Pelfrey can expect if the Mets non-tender him.

The Rockies hired former outfielder Dante Bichette as their hitting coach.

We all heard about Mike Fast's catcher framing study from last year. Listen to this: by one measure, Jose Molina saved 50 (FIFTY!) runs with his defense in 2012, thanks to his excellent throwing and receiving skills.

Maury Brown has a list of the 10 best MLB relocation and expansion markets. Number one on the list? Northern New Jersey, though it'll never happen with the Yankees, Mets and Phillies in the area.

Now you can petition the White House to get the Royals to release Jeff Francoeur! Dayton Moore is just mesmerized by that toothy grin and that arm.
