SBN Awards: Pitcher Of The Year — R.A. Dickey, Justin Verlander

Anthony Gruppuso-US PRESSWIRE

SB Nation reveals its annual year-end baseball awards, handing out the metaphorical hardware for the best pitchers of the year.

After each baseball season ends — but before the playoffs begin — SBN Baseball bloggers get together and vote on awards for the year's nonpareil performers. Each team site — including Amazin' Avenue — is allowed a maximum of two ballots for their team's league. In our case, we completed two National League ballots for all three awards: Rookie of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, and Player of the Year.

Today we announce the winners of both leagues' pitcher of the year, an award with special significance for us because R.A. Dickey had not only the best season of any Mets pitcher, but was arguably the National League's nonpareil pitch-thrower overall. Chris McShane and Eno Sarris proudly represented AA in the voting and their ballots were as follows:

Chris

  1. R.A. Dickey
  2. Clayton Kershaw
  3. Gio Gonzalez
  4. Matt Cain
  5. Johnny Cueto

Eno

  1. R.A. Dickey
  2. Clayton Kershaw
  3. Gio Gonzalez
  4. Craig Kimbrel
  5. Cole Hamels

Naturally, both Chris and Eno praised Dickey with their respective top picks, with some other guys with arms filling out the rest of the ballot. Would the SBN baseball writers concur?
