Mets Morning News: Extend Daivid Wrongz?

Kevin Liles-US PRESSWIRE

The Wright extension is getting contentious according to the ol' reliable sources with knowledge of the discussions. But what do they say about Luis Hernandez?

Meet the Mets

The big news of the morning is Mike Puma reporting that the Mets are only 50/50 to get a deal done with David Wright. Apparently David and his representatives think the Mets offer is currently low. That's why it's a negotiation, I guess. Howard Megdal sees some 'clarity' coming in the Wright negotiation in the coming weeks.

Faith and Fear in Flushing's Greg Prince has a new book out, you can check it out here.

Ted Berg celebrates a milestone over at Tedquarters by posting an embarrassing picture of Cole Hamels. Congratulations Ted and congratulations Cole!

Toby Hyde takes on the Wilmer Flores defensive questions. As someone who has been answering Wilmer Flores defensive questions for six months now, all I have to add is 'yep.'

And Ruben Tejada's Panama team lost a tough 1-0 duel to the Brazilians in their World Baseball Classic pool final. St. Lucie's Angel Cuan took the hard luck loss for Panama, giving up just one run while striking out six in four innings of work.

Rob Castellano looked back at the 2012 Binghamton Mets season, so there's good news about Wilmer Flores as well.

Mike Bates (aka the Common Man) argued that the Mets should consider going full rebuild and trading Wright and Dickey this offseason.

James K continued his multi-part TWISNY Year in Review extravaganza. This time he covered Nitpicking with TWISNY

And Brock Mahan wrote about the Mets 1979 sale to the Doubleday and Wilpon.

Around MLB

To the shock of absolutely no one, Bud Selig approved the Blue Jays/Marlins deal. "Plausible baseball decisions" y'all.

Managerial news! First, the Blue Jays seems to be leaning towards former, uh Blue Jays manager John Gibbons to be their new Blue Jays manager. Okay then. And the Padres picked up the 2014 and 2015 options on manager Bud Black.

At FanGraphs, Mike Newman takes a closer look at Red Sox prospect (and Gavin's brother) Garin Cecchini.

And JAWS (Jaffe Adjusted WAR Score, a tool for evaluating Hall of Fame candidates) is now part of the baseball-reference family. I'm probably more excited about this than I should be.
