Mets Morning News: Sandy Is Digesting His Thanksgiving Meal, Getting Ready To Buy R.A. & David Some Chocolates?

One of these things is not like the other. - J. Meric

Your Saturday morning dose of New York Mets and Major League Baseball news, notes and links.

Meet the Mets

Continuing their flurry of minor league signings of late, Ben Badler of Baseball America reported that the Mets signed Dominican relief pitcher Wanel Mesa. The 25-year old Mesa has been pitching in the independent Atlantic League since 2011, most recently appearing for the Bridgeport Bluefish. Prior to that, Mesa was a member of the Nationals farm system.

We're at the point where there's going to have to be some real progress on David Wright and R.A. Dickey in the very near future.

Around the Majors

Get ready, everyone: Royals' GM Dayton Moore is ready to include uber-prospect Wil Myers in a trade for a front end starting pitcher. Of course, Dayton's definition of "front end starting pitcher" is a bit different than everybody else's. Considering the guy likely has to be a current or former Brave, my bet is on an awful Myers for Jair Jurrjens deal and then Myers spends the next 20 years terrorizing the Mets.

Brandon McCarthy is set to begin throwing in December, a great sign after his season ended with a line drive to the head a few months ago. If the Mets somehow found themselves in the market for a starting pitcher, he'd be my favorite target and potentially a bargain.

The Giants say they aren't necessarily committed to Angel Pagan in center field, though I'd imagine that's just posturing. He seems like the best possible fit for the Giants.

Yesterday At AA

Thomas Wachtel found some exciting holiday gifts to help you complete all of your holiday shopping in this edition of Today In Mets eBay Superlatives.

Ari Berkowitz has a great piece at Beyond the Box Score on what to expect from R.A. Dickey over the next few years.

Michael Donato wonders how the Mets will spend Jason Bay's money. I tend to agree that they plan to spend it but I'll still have to see it happen to actually believe it.

In This Date In Mets History for November 23rd, the Mets made their debut in the Thanksgiving Day parade in 1961.
