The lefty underwent shoulder surgery in September, but could return late next year.

Several different media outlets are reporting that the Mets have agreed to a minor league deal that would bring back LOOGY Tim Byrdak next season. Here's the relevant tweet from Andy McCullough:

Byrdak has been with the Mets for the past two seasons, and when healthy, he's been excellent in that role. He had shoulder surgery in September, and it's not clear if he'll have any part to play in 2013. If he does, it will likely be very late in the year before he takes the mound at all.

The Mets will still likely be looking to add another left-hander to the bullpen mix, they currently have Robert Carson, Scott Rice, and Josh Edgin to use in those spots. It's nice to see the team bringing back Byrdak on the low risk deal though, if the team is surprisingly in the hunt come mid-August, he could be a useful asset.
